Yeah, in chess there are five ways to draw a game. As Luke said, if one side can’t make any legal moves, that’s considered a stalemate. Other options include offering and accepting a draw, dead position (if there’s insufficient material to checkmate or checkmate is in some way impossible), threefold repetition (repeating the same move in the same position three times), and doing 50 consecutive moves without taking a piece or moving a pawn

@xian2themax79 Exceptions exist, though this depends on the chess regulator. It's either "unless the other player has a forced mate" or "unless there exists a possible sequence of moves leading to the other player mating". In some cases, material considered insufficient to mate (e.g. a king and a knight) may still have a forced mate if the other player's king movement gets blocked by its own pieces, so this is accounted for.

I love this Chess match so much, first by attempting to distract Chat with all the videos but then it got overwhelming and Doug was blundering too, but Doug still had the advantage, at that point he was getting confident, that he could finally win against Chat in Chess, but he wasn't sure how to win so he called for help, and then he was asked to apologize for Rook C8, since that move was such a mistake, but Doug didn't think it was, this is when his pride started taking over him in this match, refusing to apologize and thinking he could win by himself, but later he even missed a few checkmates, the cracks started to be noticeable, and Chat took this opportunity, by moving to A7 they saw the possibility of Stalement and got very excited, Doug was confused and got worried by Chat saying they have won, but he went through thinking he couldn't lose, and promoted to Queen, the fact he promoted to Queen is also important, since logically Queen is always the best option to promote to, but if he had promoted to anything else he could still had the chance to win, but now it is too late, Doug did't understand what was going on for a few seconds, and then the realization hit him, that it was stalemate, and just when he realized then Chat started to activate the laugh track, having thousand of people laughing at him Doug literally went from King of the World to the Fool that everyone laughs at, and it was because his own mistakes, he lost because of his hubris, and that is just very poetic

For those that don't know chess and are confused about Rook c8: The reason why this was a bad move is because now the King can ensure that the pawn can not promote/loses the pawn. both King c4 and b5. What he should have done is just pushing the pawn, bacause Black has ni way of catching up, that way it's Mate in 7 (or 8) moves.
@feli-the-darkfairy
Жыл бұрын
Maybe I should explain further. Yes, the rook now protects the pawn, but if the black King always stays next to the pawn we end up with Rc8;Pc7;kb7. The black King forces the Rook away, the Rook can no longer protect the Pawn and the pawn is gone.

In the Dougverse (Doug Doug universe) chat has Aboulomania (It is a mental disorder in which the patient displays pathological indecisiveness. It is typically associated with anxiety, stress, depression, and mental anguish, severely affecting one's ability to function socially.) and he also has dementia and remembers slight grudges that goes on for episodes as a gag. Chat has gone to a place in the United Kingdom and he got obsessed with snooker and while going back to the United States he watched Monsters university and loved the character Mike and decided to make a handmade Halloween costume about him. He always packed Meatball sandwiches and adds things to anything and when he was a kid his first word was rigged as well as being called a logician with everything but the smarts of one he also drives a shopping cart collector that he bought from a garage sale and has a pet duck named Janitor and he has a lot of kid in his house. If you have no legal move, it's a draw. Since chat must move, but cannot put the king in check willingly it becomes a draw. It's a stupid rule that make no sense but you can't change chess because it's too old or something.

It's stalemate, because Doug has not given chat any legal move - they would be in check wherever they moved from A7 - but A7 *itself* is not in check. So it's a stalemate
@randomperson8375

Yeah that really is a dumb rule. Like, surely there are times when a King would be thrown into the dungeons rather than being outright killed. Or if they're literally stuck hiding in one place with no supplies or reinforcements on the way then they'd die pretty soon regardless, it's just a waiting game at that point until they run out of supplies. I get that chess is an old game, but if certain rules don't make sense then it's just reasonable to update them. For a clear victory (one person is stuck and has to take their turn, the other can move freely and win no matter the other person's move) to be considered a draw seems like a big oversight and a result of two rules conflicting with each other due to poor wording: You have to move a piece on your turn, but you can't move a piece on your turn in this specific scenario, so logically that should result in a loss rather than a draw because any move you make would result in a loss
