I read that 1361 was planned for restoration as a way for school trips to teach Pennsylvania travel, and she'd be used for excursions. That would be pretty cool if she's restored for that. It's my dream to see her in person. It's a great day.

I'm curious as to where they'll run it. Most roads now are extremely unfriendly to mainline steam, NS being a prime example oddly enough.

I heard Bennett Levin wants to work with some legislative remedy to cover the insurance cost for the 1361. As long as someone besides a class one railroad covers the insurance cost, then the 1361 can travel on NS rails. Most likely for ferry moves, as the locomotive tours Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia to Harrisburg Mainline belongs to the State of Pennsylvania not Amtrak. So it could run their with state support. Also I'm sure the Nittany and Bald Eagle would be glad to host as in times past for 1361.

And hope this solves the problem with LIRR 39 and future sister 35. Not to mention when the policy for RRMPA is gone, 1223 and 7002s future rebuilds. IF repeat IF the museum loses its policy
@HarryWarren1223
3 жыл бұрын
It's highly unlikely that 1223 and 7002 will ever see steam again. Since the early 1990s the relationship between the Strasburg Rail Road and the RRMPA hasn't been great. Since both locomotives are owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, getting necessary approval for the locomotives to operate would be extremely tedious. In regards to your other comment, I highly doubt 1361s belpaire firebox will be replaced with a radial stay firebox.
@AdmiralColdhead

@@HarryWarren1223 Not only that, but 1223 and 7002 wouldn't be fit to run anyway because the Museum in Lancaster wants to keep their locomotives unaltered. Having them run would cause heavy FRA boiler workings, and the museum wants to keep 1223 and 7002's equipment original. With said equipment being unfit for holding steam, we will not be seeing them run anytime soon unless the museum changes its mind.
@robertmohler9131

I would be surprised if 1223 has any original material left because after retirement by the PRR it ran on the Strasburg for 30 years at least. That loco should be eligble to run again As for 7002 it only ran for 7 years so it is still somewhat original.

But wait PRR routes were all owned by NS. How will PRR 1361 be restored if NS. does not allow PTC to that locomotive & also PRR T1 5550
@steamgent4592

PTC can be added even to steam. It's been in all British mainline engines for many years. It just ties into the brake system. Also the PRR mainline from Philadelphia to Harrisburg belongs to the State of Pennsylvania not Amtrak nor NS.......But there are also many steam friendly regional lines as well.
