Thanks for the highly informative video! It tipped the scales for me and I picked up the single cut version a few days ago. I've been playing for 30 years. Everything you said is spot on. The guitar plays like a dream. Smooth and buttery vintage tones but more than enough punch to belt out the crunchy stuff too. I actually dialed back my gain a bit because the bridge pickup, although technically not super hot, growls like a beast. Each note rings out in ideal clarity and perfect balance. To say this guitar is tremendous value and quality is a significant understatement. Keep up the great work! 👍🏻🎸

The S2 line is THE PRS line for me. I can absolutely live without all the 'bling' and the very, very slight changes on a few components for the massive cost savings. The quality is all there! Had three SEs over the years that I really wanted to like, but could never bond with - then I picked up an S2...a WORLD of difference. Just got the S2 McCarty 594 Thin line and can't say enough about it. Just phenomenal.

@@timgoodwintv _ Every penny, worth it. The ONLY thing I would tell you is the neck is a really small circumference and the guitar really is a 'thin line' - think, SG. That said, both work great for me and the quality and sound is absolutely what you'd expect from PRS.

mpactdesignmedia thanks for the response! I read a review that said the balance is off because the body of the guitar is so light do you find this to be an issue? Also I don’t have big hands so a thinner neck might be great for me!

Dude that guitar is stunning!!! I just played one the other day at a local guitar store, and I am floored. I have 3 PRS guitars CU22, CU24, and S2 Satin Single Cut and I am telling you for my money, I am all about this guitar. I played it through an Engl amplifier(Gigmaster 30) and it sounded phenomenal. I will probably be ordering one identical to what you have because the Blue is just freaking awesome!!! I also agree that for a gigging musician if you need one guitar this is it, i mostly use my CU24, and that covers it all but it does lose tuning now and then because of the tremolo, I think PRS has hit a HOME RUN!!! My S2 is a beast of a Tonemonster, an playing through my rig is top of the heap, and I got it for under $1k. Great video brother

Everyone keeps saying the "fraction of the price" thing. Sure, the S2 is less expensive, but it's still $1900 (over $2K after tax). I just ordered a S2 McCarty 594 in Dark Cherry Sunburst, tonight. I was shocked a $2K guitar only comes with a gig bag and not an hard shell case. Some Epiphone LPs come with hard shells for under a $1K. All my Gibson guitars came with a HSC.

While I was researching, PRS had confirmed that the S2 pickups are better quality than the SE pickups however they’re both made overseas. The S2, while built in USA, has all electronics from abroad.. Doesn’t make it bad… but buyers should know. It’s nowhere mentioned in their catalogue therefore one has to assume they prefer you don’t know.

So, Im a keyboard player for 40+ years, FINALLY getting a guitar at 58 and learning beyond the basic chords, mainly to noodle on during retirement at my cabin. Doing a ton of research and so far everything has led me to the S2 594 mccarty thinline cherry at my price point. Shes a real beauty. I dont want to skimp and say later I wish I invested a little more. Can't wait to order this. Thanks!

I own an SE, S2 and a Core. The cost of my S2 is much closer to the cost of my SE, but the quality of my S2 is much closer to the quality of my core. Unless money is no object, you will get the best value for money from the S2 line. However, I am disappointed that the new line does not include locking tuners. I have them on my S2 Singlecut. So PRS has "cheaped out" a bit in that respect.

Very strange, and it looks like they use their regular tuning pegs rather than the cheaper (but more efficient) ones that are on the Standard and Custom S2 line. I agree my S2 is the best guitar I own, even over my schecter c7 hellraiser. I do not own a core or SE however.

I would think for that kind of money you would at least get the same pickups as the core models, especially being “USA made”. These have the same pickups as the SE model. It’s kind of like buying a Gibson Les Paul studio and getting Epiphone pickups.

I thought it was a over the top string not a normal bridge. LOL That is a nice color. Isn't that about a $2000 guitar? I think PRS could have added a nice hard case for the money, the SE line I understand. The only Indonesian guitar I own is my Ibanez Joe Satriani Red model, $1500-1600 retail but if I was to get another Ibanez I would get the ones made in Japan, I heard those are superb. I am getting a Custom made Strat made to the Robin Trower stats by a guy in Ohio at Retro Guitars. I got Seymour Duncan pups that have a Trower/Hendrix tone to them. One is their Seymour Duncan Custom Shop pup and that takes 4-6 weeks to make. Take a look at his website/FB page.

I'm a huge prs fan but they need to go back to the drawing board with the S2's. Prs are the only guitars I play most of the time but the S2's have a plastic look to them and the strings always slap the neck too loudly whenever I hear someone play them. Way too thin. The pickups are also brutal they are just loud and clear not really warm or tuned.

Hi Domonic. So the day it was announced, I called my account manager at Sweetwater and told him to put me down for a blue one whenever they get a shipment in. He then said one was en route to his warehouse to be a "demo" unit for them but obviously he would sell when he has a chance, so he shipped it as soon as they got it in. I literally had mine a week before NAMM back in January. That's how this one went. :) Hopefully yours will arrive sooooooooner than later.
