Do a video about how airflow will work inside the ssd slot to cool the SSD when its enclosed inside the ssd slot, even if it has a heat sink. I see many people asking about that.
@nextjin
3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Depending on the airflow, some heat sinks will naturally be superior. I would think heat sinks with the fins going horizontally (like a ladder) as opposed to the one he recommends. I have the one he recommends and it’s great in a pc case with airflow coming from the front but there may be a significant difference. The WD Blacks heat sink is configured like that where the “holes” are horizontal.

Seagate used EK to do their heatsink. They are world leaders of watercooling products for pc. Pretty sure that is a safe bet without getting technical. Big brands won't say ps5 ready of they haven't done the testing themselves. Like the last comment console will not thrash a top end ssd like a pc would people need to choose their favourite and be done. FiteCuda with ekwb heatsink to me is a no brainer. Especially the highest speeds and crazy endurance doubling the others for peace of mind. Oh and 3yrs included data recovery on top of normal 5yr warranty. I mean come on all that is worth a bigger price tag. Bravo Seagate. And the are the sole owners of the xbox ssd expansion for good reason.

If you want the best price/performance get the sn850 for sure. install a low heatsink of 10-20$ if u can't find the one with heatsink or if it's too expensive

Originally I wanted to wait for prices to drop but now I'm caught in the hype since the software update went live. Obviously availability is an issue atm but I was really leaning toward the WD850 2TB just because it is $360. I'd prefer the Seagate but they're listed at $460 for 2TB. However I see the Gigabyte Aourus in stock for $399 so the past couple nights I've really been wanting to just pull the trigger. hence why I'm here probably lol. Oddly enough I'm not really considering the Samsung because w/o the heatsink the 980 is $360. Anyway, pretty solid video and I like how you simply say they're all great drives... I tend to think the same way about it, too; probably, because we both have the Toyota mindset - reliability over performance. The good thing is that I'm not going to get a PS5 just yet, so I'll wait to see how things will go among all these & the newer SSDs, & when, that eventuallity of needing one occurs, I'll go for the best one that I can afford. Being a digital-game buyer, getting an internal SSD will be just one part of the deal for me, the other would be getting an external HDD for the storage of all the digital games that would get accumulated during this generation. It seems that the total cost of a digital PS5, an internal SSD, an external HDD would be around 1k. It certainly is a lot of money for a consol and its necessary accessories. My PS4 Pro & a 4TB external HDD by WD had cost me almost half of this. Now, I'm just trying to get informed on these SSDs.

For price and performance and seems pretty clearly the Aorus is the way to go. But listening to this vid you wouldn’t get that feel

With the prices now. No one should buy below 1tb ino. 500gb at worst. I got several 500gb in my pcs but that's back when prices were higher. Now u can get double for same price.

If you're only talking about the ps5 why mention video storage as you can't store vid data to the m.2, as this can only be stored on the internal storage. Only game data can be stored on the m.2

No doubt the fire Cuda is great but when it comes to longevity for my understanding the 980 Pro can last through 6,000 terabytes whereas the fire Cuda can only last through about 1,725 before the cells are dead. So in reality the fire could have the faster speeds but the Samsung 980 Pro does exactly what the PS5 can do plus will last forever ×10. I got the 980 Pro 1TB for $140.

In the Netherlands the WD Black is the cheapest of the supported SSDs, 1TB for €160 where the Samsung 980 1TB is €190 but I want the Firacuda for it's durability, it's just still a bit expensive so I'll wait for the price to drop.

The write speed of the drive is unimportant. The internal ssd in the ps5 can only write up to 300 MBs. The reason for this is the NAND chips Sony used. They are Toshiba (Kioxia) NANDs (model no: TH58LJT0T24BA4C). These chips have write speed of 45 MBs and Sony uses 6 of them hence the 300 MBs write limit. Also by what I have read the ps5 has a hard limit to the read speed. This hard limit is 6555 MBs and is caused by the fact the m.2 ssd connects to Sonys custom ssd controller before going to the APU. So in other words this is the reason the PS5 benchmark does not go above 6555 MBs. IOPS on the other hand are more important and is the main reason why the drives with higher IOPS like the FireCuda 530 and the WD sn850 are marginally faster.
