In this video I am shooting my highly-modified Palmetto State Armory GF5 AK47. For full specs of the GF5 model, you can go to the PSA website. But highlights are that is has a 16.5" FN Herstal (FNH) cold-hammer-forged chrome-lined 1:9.45" twist barrel with bore-centric cut barrel threads, allowing you to run suppressed. It also came factory with an ALG Defense trigger, and it is the best AK trigger I've ever felt. It also came with a Toolcraft bolt & bolt-carrier, and barrel trunnion. This is a VERY solidly-built rifle. The fit and finish are flawless, the rivets are all domed perfectly, and being that this is a fairly recent production gun, it has what PSA calls the "modular tailpiece", which allows you to run any regular AK stock or Magpul Zhukov stock, but also if you remove those stocks, the tailpipe pops out without any tools, and you can install the PSA 1913 picatinny folding stock adapter.
The original furniture was removed, and a Midwest Industries Alpha MLOK handguard w/ optic mount and a Vortex SPARC Solar 1x red dot was installed. It has a Hogue overmold grip. I have also added the PSA 1913 stock adapter, and a JMac Customs SS-9RP stock w/ a 1/2" cheek riser and the JMac 1913 picatinny mount. I also have a JMac Customs 360 KeyMicro 14x1LH KeyMo mount for the suppressor. I'm running my Dead Air Sandman-S MIL Contract can on this one.
I'm shooting recent Russian-production Wolf 122gr 7.62x39 steel-cased ammo. Honestly, with all the info I know about AK's, I was not expecting a whole lot of precision out of this rifle. It is not a precision weapon. It was designed to hit "minute-of-man" from point-blank to about 200-300 yards tops. But, this rifle setup is so accurate for a battle rifle! It has really impressed me. With a 1x red dot, I have no problem quick-firing and popping 5" tree gongs at 100 yards with cheap steel-cased ammo every time. Usually if I miss one, it's because of my astigmatism messing with me using the bright red dot. I'm only a couple-hundred rounds in, and I'm really enjoying this rifle so far. Zero issues, really nice fit and finish, and very smooth operation. If you plan to get a PSA AK, get the GF5. It's their top of the line, but it's worth the extra expense with the upgraded parts you get in it from the factory.
With the suppressor, there is A LOT of port-pop and you will have to wear earplugs with this one. Ak's were designed to be so over-gassed (for reliability and function), that this is the only gun I own that causes me discomfort without earplugs when shooting suppressed.
** SIDE NOTE **
Pictured in the thumbnail is a real 1st pattern vintage Russian Slabside mag. That magazine is pushing 75 years old, and no telling how many rounds fired, or times it was issued, or how long it's sat fully loaded in armories over those years, and it's still going strong. The Russians really overbuilt those 1st pattern mags. Interesting fact, the 1st pattern Slabside mags are made of stamped and welded 1mm thick steel, which is exactly the same thickness of the original stamped 1st pattern AK-47 receivers. So the magazines were built as tough as the guns. But they're also SUPER heavy compared to other mags. Which is why you mostly see them as display pieces, and not being used for training.
I get all of my suppressors, tax stamps, and trusts through Silencer Shop.
** Disclaimer** This video was filmed at my local FFL/SOT machine gun range, which is a professional environment, and has a licensed full-time NRA-certified R.O. and an enclosed firing area. I am also licensed and professionally trained to handle firearms. All firearms safety precautions were utilized during the filming of this video. This video is for entertainment purposes only.
