P5/P6 Fractions
(Q1) A bun costs 1/3 as much as a pie. Tom spent 5/11 of his money on 20 pies, and 3/4 of his remaining money on some buns. He had $14.40 left in the end.
(a) Find the amount of money Tom had at first.
(b) Find the number of buns Tom bought.
(Q2) Tina spent 5/9 of her money on 3 erasers and 8 rulers, and 3/4 of her remaining money on 7 pens. Each eraser cost 2/3 as much as each ruler. Each pen cost 40 cents more than each eraser.
(a) What fraction of her money did Tina spend?
(b) Find the cost of a ruler.
