Thank you, wonderful information. Completely agree that so many psychiatrists are poorly trained with medication and therapy. No compassion. I weaned myself off all medications, turns out I didn’t need to be on, certainly not for 30 years. Soon to be 64. Spreading the word is so important.

For sure, many people are left on a cocktail for months, years, and decades unnecessarily and suffering the impact of those drugs. For example the treatment guidelines for depression are 6-9 months for mild conditions, and 1-2 years for moderate-severe. However, on average people stay 5 years on antidepressants (US stat). It's amazing that you were able3 to wean off of all your medications. What helped you do that?

After years of no improvement. Yes, I felt numb and hopeless, but my Dr said "you will be in this for the rest of your life." That was not my goal! I wanted to get better! So I took myself off. Took about 2 years before I started feeling better. Actually started feeling happiness.

I am so happy for you! That's amazing. What helped you get better? And how was the tapering process for you? Some doctors are incredibly arrogant. They have that god complex. I absolutely hate when they tell people something is "for the rest of your life." They have no clue what you're capable of and I'm glad you didn't listen and found a way to heal and move forward in your life.

Overmedication is a huge issue in medicine and psychiatry. Those medications tend to numb people's emotions which is necessary to be felt to grieve. Losing a partner and or a member of a family like a pet is hard. And why shouldn't people be supported in grieving their losses? This is one of the most dehumanizing thing that happens to people. It is pathologizing normal human emotions and process. Then labelling and drugging so that they're not able to process trauma, and loss. Medications take away the negative emotions but they also block the positive ones often. And yes don't even get me started on the "side effects"/full effects of those medications. Weight gain, brain fog, lack of motivation, fatigue, sexual side effects, adverse effects, increased suicidality etc. The list goes on. That's what I call insult to injury. People are already suffering and instead of alleviating that suffering psychiatry adds and complicates it. Not at all compassionate or helpful!
