My pranaams to you on Guru Purnima Day, Guruji !! Western music is indeed limited whereas Indian classical has unlimited possibilities but like a true musician, you still admire & embrace both with an uncanny sense of humour. You’re indeed a very versatile & therefore interesting teacher. Wish I was in Kolkata to join your classes. I’m so glad your talented daughter has inherited all your characteristics & will continue this rich & precious family tradition… 🙏

There is no correlation between New Orleans Jazz and Ghum Ashe na. On the contrary the saxophone solo is definitely on point,it's derogatory to say western/jazz/western classical musicians and contemporary musician ..that they don't understand the format of Indian classical music. Just like, the Indian musicians need to learn the cycle of 5th of Jazz and inversions..it's vice versa. We are in 2024, it's important to co-exist. In a world where music has no boundaries, there is no point "comparing" two very different kinds of music. There has to be respect for all forms of music... because in today's world music is not singular but global!

Well said. The Western tradition, imo, was somewhat minimized here. It is its own behemoth which focuses on other aspects of theory. Particularly, the concept of harmony is a bottomless pit and not so easily simplified. What Panditji said here regarding the absence of a steady tonic is also (if I may say so) misleading. Like you said, jazz in particular, plays around with the modulation of the tonic itself to traverse different planes in the melodic landscape. Regardless, Panditji is doing a great service and makes many great points throughout this talk. Let me also add that I believe there are a great many things to be learnt from comparisons, when done with the right intent. That is, with an open mind rather than in an attempt to downplay/demean one to prop up the other. Also, in my personal experience, both jazz and icm can get too much into the weeds of theory, departing from the intent of stirring emotions in the player/audience. I guess, this is equivalent to haute couture pushing fashion to extreme boundaries to the point where it looks absurd to the everyday person.

Music starts from India. Western's highest notes clearly tooks from Indian classical basic notes. With some customization they called it Western music. And Indian classical music is ocean🌊 you can't see boundaries of it.

Indian Standard melody & harmony sounds the best . Nowadays illuminati music industry in the west got disturbed ugly that makes my ears bleeding because most of the greatest west singers are 80 years old or dead .

Western musicians Raag ka ek line nrhi kr sakta - I couldn't take this line Sir. St present, Indian music IS FULLY Dependent ON Western Music for commercial purpose. Sorry

Brother. Indian classical music is not commercial music. Western music is dependent on straight notes, hence Indian music is basically on Mind/bakra swar. The varieties we have in music, they don't have. Indian music adopted Western music a little bit I agree. But it's 100% true that Western musicians can't sing Indian music ..... Because Indian music is a meditative process..... And I hope you know which country promotes meditation all over the world? That's India. We Indians believe that music is a way to reach God. And I hope you know, that Lord Shiva was one of the exponents of music. The first book where music was described was...... Shyam Veda. Where was Western music then? The elaboration process Indian classical music has, no Western musics can't be compared with that.

@rupanroy8454 Brother, the thing is not about being older, oldest. It's true that Samveda contains mantra in song format. But now a days Raga based songs are hardly made by composers. People can't even sing it properly. One more thing is that RAGA education has not been generalized. A few people in exchange for a huge amount give you that education. There is always a discipline and strictness work while playing ragas that its beauty. Western music is mainly for the mind, but Indian classical is for soul. Many maestros teach Western theory on youtube, spotify, and other online sites. But how many Indians are there to teach Raga online ? Only a few programs are there like RAAG RAS BARSHEY and so on based ragas. These are very rare. But, we Indians are not ready to spread that knowledge among us. It should reach each and every student just like the western system. They have everything written in staff, you can not have CLASSICALS IMPROVISATIONS documented. Lord Shiva is the God of the world, it would be better to call him LORD of everything. He is supreme God of fine art. Even Gandharvas learn music from him.

@rupanroy8454 on ine hand Promoting meditation to the world but on the other it suffers from chaos inside. We only take pride in our past, but we are not ready even 1% make our present better

@@papai983 first thing. Raga music doesn't need today's cringe composers. From RC Boral to Salil Chowdhury, they used a lot of ragas. Second thing, Raga music is Indian music. The strictness of raga music, the discipline of the raga music is the cause of its lasting for thousands of years. Third thing, Indian raga music is a divine which connects directly to the soul. According to Shyam Veda, music is one of the finest ways to connect with the all mighty. So, whoever music produces, how cringe music produces, Indian music doesn't care. Everything is not for everybody. Good listeners and classical listeners are still alive to book all the tickets in advance for the classical concert.

@@papai983Indian culture doesn't promote the chaos.... First thing. Second thing, our past is not only glorious, it is far far far far far more modern than today's generation. Third thing, meditation is the ultimate process.
