There’s a crank pulley puller that’s made for this. Your way works but when you back the crank bolt out and press on it you’re putting a lot of stress on very few of the crank threads. The puller for the job uses a metal dowel rod that goes inside the bolt hole and you push on it instead of the threads.

@@catlady8324 Book time is about 9hrs. Removing the timing is the hardest part. The rest of it goes pretty smooth.

@@ValleyMobileAutomotive TY. We may have a bad head gasket and plan to do a bubbler fluid test. The car was a deal ($750) due to overheating with 165K miles. I think we should send the head out for pressure test, milling, do the T-Belt with all the fix’ns and be done with it for this decade.

@@catlady8324 If it's been overheating then you definitely want a machine shop to look at it. Usually when I do a head gasket I have the machine shop do a valve job, resurface the head and put in valve seals. Another option is to purchase an already rebuilt head so it's ready to be swapped over.
