One of the best ways for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan to reintegrate into society is by returning to the classroom. This talk will show one infantry Marine's journey from the depths of wars to the walls of academia. The idea of working with veterans in the safe environment of a classroom and structure of university life is an idea worth sharing.
Born and raised in Bethel, CT, Thomas Burke joined the Marine Corps in 2007 after graduating from Bethel High School. Returning home in 2011 after serving as an infantry rifleman in Iraq and Afghanistan, Thomas completed his degree in Religious Studies and English from Sacred Heart University in 2014. Currently a Master’s in Divinity Candidate at Yale Divinity School, Thomas aims to form a ministry built to respond to the trauma returning veterans have experienced serving in over a decade of war.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
