My most recent article was just published in the journal, Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases:
Estrogen and cardiovascular disease
In this talk, I explain how ovarian estrogen (estradiol) protects cardiovascular health by maintaining and regulating:
- energy production in the heart
- heart rate
- blood pressure
- cholesterol
The evidence has been clear for a long time that the Women's Health Initiative was a flawed study that inappropriately drove many women away from hormone therapy in menopause. This has led to immeasurable suffering in women, both with acute menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and brain fog and also with long term chronic diseases that result from estrogen deficiency, including cardiovascular disease.
It has been an important part of my life's work to reverse this misguided approach to women's health, and publishing articles in important medical journals is one way that my colleagues and I are bringing HRT back into mainstream medicine. I am so proud of this article that I've published with James H. O'Keefe, Carl J. Lavie, Andrew Elagizi, and Jari A. Laukkanen.
