I believe that Puerto Rico would thrive if it were to become a US state. 1. They would be able to attract more companies in which would attract more jobs. 2. While in the beginning the additional taxes added would hinder for a bit, it would ultimately help PR get more federal investments and involvement. 3. Puerto Rico would finally have Electoral college votes, and at least 6 representatives in Congress ( 2 Senators and 4 Representatives). This would show the world how inclusive the United States is, from having states have their own cultures, it would show how multicultural the country is. 5. Spanish wouldn’t disappear, it will remain, like many Puerto Rican traditions and cultural differences will remain. I believe PR statehood is the best way forward.

Pedro Albizo Campos would disagree with this guy, and so will I. As a state, it would lose a lot more than culture, ask Hawaii natives what they lost and see what they are going through to this day. What congress needs to do is end the Jones Act, that would help the people more than statehood.

3:50 Yes, English - Spanish - French and native American languages are spoken widely in America; however, English is our foundational language which needs to be taught to many more citizens or soon to be citizens. What happens if natural disasters strike the island as a state & citizens move to areas that do not speak Spanish - how will they cope? We need a common language in America so for me as many people as possible need to learn or manage in English to be active members of our society.

Nos quieren sacar de nuestra tierra los mismos nuestros que se creen estadounidenses y se creen mejor que los de color más oscuro y de campo jibaritos. No to the Gentrification of our beautiful brothers and sisters by our own people (selling their souls to the devil) helping investors and big corporations kick us out step by step. The average household income in each of the states that you mentioned is higher than in Puerto Rico. All US territories underperform economically because of their unequal treatment under federal laws and the uncertainty that suppresses investment. There is a consisten trend with territories that become states of economic convergence with the national average in the U.S. leading to significant economic growth in the decades after admission. So yes it is virtually guaranteed that Puerto Rico’s economy will be much better off under statehood than continuing as a territory or if it becomes an independent country.

You don't strengthen a culture by assimilating it its colonial power house. The colony's culture remains the same it only strengthens when the colony becomes independent from its colonial rule. Painting the intertwining of PR and U.S culture in a light that ignores U.S persecution of independence movements and self determination fights ignores the fact that the culture shift to a more american culture comes from decades of indoctrination of children into viewing the U.S in an idealized perspective. The status quo of economic disaster and corruption comes from the bipartisan dynamic of the pro-statehood party and the pro-commonwealth party that have stumped puerto ricans and fear mongered them into never thinking of independence as an option. The lengths these parties will go to keep the status quo and ignore advances in U.S Senate to make PR a state are well documented. They hoard federal money into their own pockets. The strengthening of PR culture and economy would only happen when PR and U.S enter talks of decolonization policies, in equal terms. This will only happen if the pro-independence party cleans the government of corrupt officials and furthers PR/US relations on equal terms. VIVA PUERTO RICO LIBRE
