Thank you very much Andrew. We always appreciate your comments. I have not played San Juan, but from what I have seen of it, it is very much a lighter version of Puerto Rico. As regards getting it, it is indeed a tough choice with so many games out there. There is no doubt that Puerto Rico is an excellent game. We enjoyed it with 2 players, but if you can get 4 people together it is a far better experience. I guess your choice is whether you want a deeper San Juan experience or something totally different. But you can never really go wrong with this game!

After watching this video, I really like how this game went. I liked the fact how the company that made the game was able to make 2-player rules for it, and you were able to show it off here. Plus, I like the idea of being able to see what Puerto Rico could like it if you were the governor and/or mayor of it, and managing the resources round after round. I wish that the colonists could also give victory points, too. Speaking of the colonists, I have a question for you. If you got 3 colonists from the mayor action, and you only had 2 open spots on your player board to put them down, would the 3 colonist claimed be removed from the game, or is that returned to the supply? You never explained what happen in that situation, since you did have that happen in this video. Otherwise, nice video. I look forward to watching the Pandemic: Legacy continuation on Friday. Let's see if you're survive month 2 of that game.
@AllAboardBoardgames

Daniel, yes, I was very happy when I found out there was a 2-player variant for Puerto Rico and we were delighted to be able to showcase it here. The colonists actually can give you some victory points if you buy and occupy the Fortress - you get 1 VP for every 3 colonists. As regards getting more colonists than you have space for, you do not lose the extra colonists. They are placed on the city of San Juan on your player board, and they are "unemployed" until you have another building or plantation with a space for them to go on. However, you cannot place them on the new buildings unless someone takes the Mayor phase again but they do still count towards your total number of colonists when scoring the Fortress.

Pat started with an extremely weak opening game, while Glai had a solid opening. But Glai suddenly switched to a passive strategy allowing Pat to catch up to her, and when Pat cornered the Coffee Market, I thought he would run away with the victory. But Pat surprised me with some Captain moves that benefited Glai more than him. This back and forth was very entertaining. Thanks, guys!

We appreciate your insight Efrain. I guess you could see our inexperience with the game coming through there. I just picked up Puerto Rico and La Granja from my local used game store for a song ($30 for both with 3D-printed inserts and sleeves) and when I searched for "Puerto Rico 2-player" I was delighted to find an All Aboard video for it. I'm also happy you're using the 3/2 role variant instead of the official 3/3 one. Back to back turns doesn't seem right in this game. I much prefer the "craftsman angst" version you're playing here. I'm looking forward to the 1897 rework as well. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Hi Jon. Wow! That was a great deal you got there. Yes, we decided to use the 2-player variant rule and I think that the 3/2 role is much better for that. I'm also interested in seeing how the 1897 rework is. We haven't played La Granja but would love to try that too.
@Jon-G
2 жыл бұрын
@@AllAboardBoardgames Well the 1897 version is supposedly exactly the same mechanically so the only rework is the art and names of certain things. All 4 of the expansions are all included too I believe. La Granja is amazing and I can't wait for the new version to start hitting stores. Kind of a point salad, Lots of fun chaining possibilities, (sell a wheat for a dollar to upgrade the grapes to wine, deliver the wine to complete a barrow, get a commodity and 4 points for finishing a barrow, place a worker on the 4 space in the market which knocks another player off the 3 space, and ok that was my first delivery and I have 3 more, etc...) cards that can be used 4 different ways (fields that produce, barrows that score once full, helpers that give a special power, and upgrades that give income and other stuff), dice rolls but everything that comes from them is useful and good, lots of beige (lol in the old version), a true Euro classic! It reminds me of Castles of Burgundy or maybe Grand Austria Hotel a little bit. A little more complex than those but still easy to follow. Highly recommended.

@@Jon-G Oh, the mechanics haven't been updated? I thought they were going to add some things, but maybe I was thinking of the expansions. You have certainly sold La Granja very well there. That sounds like a lot of fun and I am a huge fan of Euros. Will definitely check it out!

Hello, friends. Excellent video as always with exceptional clarity of actions and explanations! A few minor comments regarding gameplay: 1. At @30:01, when Glai purchases the small sugar mill, she cannot get it for free despite having two functional quarries. This is because buildings in the first column can benefit from at most one quarry, those in the second column from at most two quarries and so on. 2. At @30:41, the person who plays the craftsman must wait till all(both) people receive their usual produce before picking their bonus product. In particular, Glai would have gotten her one coffee and you would have been forced to pick a corn bonus. 3. If the mayor forgets to refill the colonist ship at the end of their mayor turn and if the group only realizes it after the next person plays, the standard amount of colonists are put on the ship (2 in this case).
