Are pex crimp rings really the best idea? I just installed this for my shower but worry about leaks...
@capn.c5321

You don't need to keep checking the crimps. You check to make sure the tool is crimping correctly and than that's it. You check it every so often, not every time you crimp a couple rings.

Yeah, not to sound rich, but for me as a home owner hiring the work out to a skilled professional, then yes... happy to pay some extra bucks for the quality checks shown here. What I find irritating is paying the bucks only to have to call them out to fix it and/or damage the issue caused. That's just me, though, who takes pride in the quality of my work in my profession.

Having installed plenty of pex over the years .. I've never found that I had a no go with that tool . And it's not worth the time. The real problem that does happen to professionals is they miss crimping one connection somewhere when they are going fast, and when you water test before any insulation or drywall gets put in it's very easy to find the one that was not crimped. It will get shot right out the pex pipe and water will be visible and audible.. 😂😂

LOVE PEX, but why use a 90 fitting?! when it cuts down your water 💦 pressure, pex usually has u use their tool to round the end slightly to fit on to your shower knob, less steps and better pressure 😜👍

Use a elbow out of the valve, then you don’t need a 90 and reduce the chance of leaks

I did exactly the same thing recently. Capped of the bottom and went from 1/2 inch to PEX. The only difference is i just used the tape without putty. I dont like the putty, i feel like it will get squeeshed out and chunks will go clog the pipes inside. Or the shower head.

Did you choose to use pex b or did you just walk onto this job? OR did they request pex b? It’s b for a reason, I know you have a cold expansion tool for pex a
@HomeRepairTutor
10 ай бұрын
It wasn’t my choice, my client already ran the PEX B, so I just continued the installation. PEX B is fine if you have the space to use the tools. But I really like PEX A because it’s more flexible than B and the M12 expansion tool is terrific in tight joist or stud bays

@@HomeRepairTutor I figured that was the case but I was curious, i really like the process of crimping but I worry about how well it can seal cause it’s just a little ring! I know it’s tried and true, on another note we bought a propress machine & it had a set of heads for crimping!!! It’s so cool

@@HomeRepairTutor we went with Milwaukee, it’s great however rigid has them beat with the compact jaw set, even the m12 propress has places it cannot get to, where the rigid can. Until Milwaukee comes out with a compact jaw set, I can only recommend the rigid propress

You can use Crimp Rings on Pex A, unfortunately all that does is Void the warranty for both products. Different codes for each state, of course, but by product installation, it just affects the warranty.

No offense but pex looks horrible coming off the valve body, go copper to the studs with 2 1/2 sweat tees 1/2 bell hangers 12” riser on each side with 12” drops then go pex with 1/2 plastic clips on each stud for vibration control

Yes, unfortunately I couldn’t bend the PEX B without kinking it. But if you can bend it without a kink, that’s a good option. And one reason I like PEX A better than PEX B, it’s more flexible

I just did two of these, using Moen. Because I am a homeowner, I elected to purchase the Ryobi PEX tubing clamp tool. Gives you a green light when it clamps correctly. I freaking love it and think stainless steel clamps are the way to go.

@jimmski9908
3 ай бұрын
$139, tool only, but I already had a battery for a different tool. It fits in tight spaces. A number of experts believe that the clamps are better than the copper rings. Once you clamp, it is so tight that the fitting won't rotate inside the pex.
