No idea that pumpkin is edible from leaves and flowers. I am now encouraged to plant pumpkins. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️👍

Here in Northeast India, we boil the leaves with birds eye chillis, garlic, and salt. We dont call it a soup but it makes for a great comfort bowl? Also, we stir fry the leaves with potatoes(mix in a half teaspoon of turmeric, coriander powder or cumin powder, salt). We love pumpkin! 🙆 Tip: A pinch of cooking soda/baking soda softens the leaves

A very late reply (but better late than never, right?) but thank you because your comment was, in itself, a recipe and I came here to learn more how to use the pumpkin. I love pumpkins AND food from India, so… Thanks, again! Was recently gifted a large quantity of cumin and turmeric, excited to try these ideas! :)

Your pumpkins are beautiful. Here in the Southern US we have squash bugs. Destructive bugs that can devastate your whole crop. Last year we had a drought and very hot days, perfect conditions for these buggers and plagued most of the southern east coast states and central states. I understand you plant companion plants but these guys hide so well. Do you have squash bugs in Australia? And, if so, what method do you use? What ever you are doing is working beautifully.

My son brought me 5 pumpkins and I have been dehydrating, mashing and freezing, today I am making what I intended to be solely dog biscuits. Pumpkin mashed with peanut butter and eggs and flour, rolled into logs and baked. I decided to taste one and they are delicious! My dog loves them too!

It’s so try we need to shift our perception about how much of most plants we can eat. I’ve started eating these greens. Also recently realized how good carrot greens are, & a decent substitute for parsley. 👍🏼

Thanks Morag, i think you are absolutely right about changing our perception of food will increase our knowledge of what food we can get from our garden. I've learnt a lot of things in my garden are edible from you, and i hadn't realised before.

Thanks so much for this video. In Mar I mulched our So Cal veggie garden with our own compost and got volunteer pumpkins that started taking over. Your advice to eat the shoots to control growth is brilliant. It saved our other veggies from smothering and the shoots are delicious!

Nice presentation. Never watched you before. What kind of pumpkin do you have in the video? And it's nice to see you have the plants come back every year so there's no re-planting.

One thing I didn't hear you mention: If you are taking the pumpkin apart to eat things individually, instead of making soup, those stringy guts surrounding the seeds? Those go excellent in vegetable stock.

Probably substitute any recipe with grape leaves with this. grains and veges wrapped in grape leaves is a classic Greek recipe, I think. I ahve an empress tree which has very grape like edible leaves, and BILLIONS of them so I think I am covered for edible leaves for half the year.

Pumpkins are nice, they appear to grow really easily on their own. But there is one big issue in some areas -- the SVB (squash vine borer). Maybe your garden has no SVB issue.

I make pumpkin puree by presure cooking the pumpkin, including skin. I then air fry the cooked pumpkin to develope even more caramelised flavour. I add roasted pumpkin inc skin to blender to make a lush puree.

your pumpkin plant seems so luscious and healthy. Such flawless looking fruit! What type is it and is it dry, firm flesh that's sweet and not watery when cooked or steamed? I have found in the past stringy like, watery ones that's not firm and sweet. Didn't care much for it. Would appreciate an answer and your thoughts. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video. I garden and cook for many years and yet I found a tons of new inspiration and information in this video. Could you please let me know, if the same would apply to courgettes ? (Being same family) Especially the information about bigger leaves, which I will be removing in time to let the light in for the fruits to form. It would be marvelous to use them, rather then putting them into compost.

I have a small city yard, and the only space large enough for a vine would be between a lilac bush and a hydrangea. Do you have any insights on if you think it would thrive there, and be safe for all the plants involved? It's a mostly sunny spot, and the lilac would be to the north and wouldn't shade it.
