I am reading Conrad Richter's books "The Trees", "The Fields", and "The Town". It is a story of settling the Ohio valley, and he uses the word puncheon to describe the material for floors, doors, and furniture. Loved this video as it gave a visual for the work of the pioneers in the novels.

Great Video, reading Little House of the Prairie and now I know what a Puncheon floor is. :)

1st Enjoyed this. Made me shudder to think of how easy it would be to cripple oneself or die of blood poisoning and how grueling the work was. I'm probably lacking enough understanding, but it seemed like a lot got wasted on SOME things, like the pegs. 😕 Ah well, I'll have to do more research. ☺️
