Pithy but also a silly take. Take the Superman punch-the back foot isn’t planted, yet by kicking backward mid-air the body can still generate more than enough power for an effective cross. No beginner would ever think to move that way without being instructed. They certainly wouldn’t do it by accident. Same with the proper motion of a gazelle hook. It’s actually very clever and I seriously doubt any boxer naturally reproduced that motion as a beginner.

@@AG-ur1ljYou would be surprised by the amount of people with no training at all, but somehow have the instinct to utilize their bodies in ways that would seem impractical, yet actually effective in some ways. Your example, the superman punch, is probably one of the most common unorthodox punches lol, even with the air kick
Ohhh you did really well! Now everyone will be able to dig deeper into this topic 🔥

this is actually really well made, alot of like "this or that"punch information online is a bunch of messing up of names that somebody else would call a diffrent punch that and they call it this wich another calls this. This however uses a very clear naming scheme and is in general just how i see it too. Big thumbs up from me on this one

I learned it as a must, maybe as a first technique like moving back wards , since no good s direct line etc to go backwards..blah blah.. and since i am a kickboxer for example i used left chhook and than right knee (or a kick) etc..etc combo, nothing unknown here, the usual techniques.. but a good vid clear and orderly showed (more and less usual techniques)😐😏. 👋Greetings to you👍for your comment

This is a GREAT video!! Source of confidence in my analysis: My dad is a senior instructor for US marine corps martial arts program. I learned all the basics of TKD, Krav Maga, Muay Boran (includes but not limited to MT), Capoeira and Wing Tsun from elementary school to when I was 15. I practiced parkour in my spare time and used to fight for fun (I still get the cravings for it) because I'm so used to the adrenaline, sweating and bruising, when he trained I trained including hunger and thirst endurance, I played soccer for 8 years and for the latter few I would play in combat boots, I could run 2 miles in 14 minutes freshman year. I stopped training for a few years while I was recovering from seizures and permanent injuries from being hit by a car in the fast lane on the freeway (it was a susu attempt). But I'm slowly getting back into it and my abs and arms have never looked better!

Bro there are only two punches. Left and Right. All of these are simply a change of body position while punching. Punch selection is a matter of what position your body in because that dictates the nearest next position you can move to while throwing a punch. Any strong punch is going to change your position a little, which is why we find ourselves in varies positions. But my point is that its wrong headed to try to endlessly list and classify all the different positions as punch xyz because the punch is an outcome of the body position. The first thing you do is maneuver and take position which has already dictated what punches you can throw. If you understand how positioning works you can understand the next possible punch regardless of what it's called or what obscure style it's from. Look at Lerdsila for a clear example.

Really solid video! I definitely learned a few good punches. I’ve never heard of the down jab before, I’ve definitely thrown it in 1-2-1-2 combinations. It’s a good one to be aware of. The screw jab should be called vertical fist jab. I already knew all of the hook variations), obviously my favorite pumch) but could you go into more detail about the differences between pivot and check hooks. Which is better and why would you pick one over the other. I also feel like you missed the leaping variations of cross and uppercut. (Leaping) cross being the advancing cross used by deontay wilder and leapfrog punch used by ippo. also, this might just be a style choice , but I have always be told overhand punches are thrown with the fist rotated over. great video overall and great selection of punches! I will 100% be practicing all of my check punches.
@akhotinbxng
3 ай бұрын
Hey! Thank you for the feedback, it’s really appreciated I personally use check hooks more because I am a taller guy for my weight but when I’m shorter than my opponent I use more pivot hooks, because I can create angle and attack with breaking the distance that much Yes leaping cross and uppercut are great punches. The first one I shared as one of the variations in my other video about punching techniques so I didn’t put it here. And leaping uppercut is just something I don’t use much Always happy to discuss stuff deeper in the comments 👊

Question: If you look at some of the Orthodox boxer's highlights like Ryan Garcia, they're powerful strike/punch is usually the LEFT hook. Why is that? Why does Orthodox boxers, even if they aren't left-handed, throw a left hook instead of their traditional right hook? Is it because the left hook takes less distance to travel? Or what?
@YoseZero
4 ай бұрын
based on mechanics the right hook will be stronger but the lead left is faster and closer and they usually have more accuracy, accuracy usually matters more than straight power and also most boxers tend to be thought to move towards the lead hand
@Leo.23232
4 ай бұрын
left hook is safer to throw because rear hand punches square you up and leave you more open in the centre, there are also other reasons, but the reason its their best punch is because they use it more for these reasons i doubt it is actually their most powerful punch though, their right hook is probably more powerful if they are right handed but that is a more situational punch so its used less
@akhotinbxng
4 ай бұрын
Good question! 1. Yes because it’s closer to your opponent so it’s less predictable 2. When you throw it after a slip or in a combo you can generate a lot of rotational force Overall pros have really hard hooks with both hands the lead hook is easier to set up. Also many top level guys use the rear hook a lot. Just look at Usyk

Hajime no Ippo references: 1. Up jab and chopping cross: "Ryo Mashiba!" 2. Shovel Hook (aka Smash): "Takeshi Sendo" 3. Corkscrew Cross: "Eiji Date" I'd like 2 say "Makunouchi Ippo" in reference 2 da "gazelle punch," but seeing as how in dat series he throws his as more of an uppercut, ... I don't think I can use dat reference here.

Yes, you named them right. Ippo was made based on many great fighters who used these techniques

I once used that last soviet hook variation on my sparring partner and it really annoyed him since I am tall too thanks for teaching bratucha.
