Since school days we were taught like this.
@observantmagic4156
Жыл бұрын
I still don’t understand tbh. Are we measuring oscillation of the light photons because of the atoms?
@angryhusky2467
Жыл бұрын
@@observantmagic4156 we can make a clock using light of particular frequency and wavelength. But how can we practically know what the wavelength of light we are using is? Through calculations we know that strontium will absorb 698nm wavelength light the most. But practically how do we check it? This machine helps us to isolate that particular light of that particular wavelength. We throw laser light of various wavelengths on the strontium atom and the one that is absorbed by strontium atom the most is the 698nm wavelength light. Now this isolated laser is sent to an electronic device that generates clock signals using it. So basically this video shows how to exactly test the frequency and wavelength of light we are going to use to make an atomic clock.

Frequency comb which you mentioned is probably one of the most important component as that is what is used to measure the frequency of the laser. Hope you cover that next time! And good to see Umakant's lab doing so well, his lab has progressed quite well since he first joined IISER Pune! Thank you for bringing amazing content and explaining them most simplistically. I recently started following your channel. Explaining science concepts with graphics lowers the age bar to grasp such concepts and helps increase the scientific temperament of the younger generation. In our days, only sources available were poorly drawn B&W representations and heavy text books written in a language that often needed picking up another! Even understanding a simple orbital structure or energy states of electrons became extremely mundane to a level where the goal ended up being studying it to pass an exam. Keep up!
