Pune to Indore Drive:
Monsoon is a lill tricky season for a drive due to poor road conditions and constant rains making visibility an issue. Pune does not have very heavy downpour but M.P. does and it might get unpleasant to visit all tourist places in rains. So, we choose this month for our roadtrip when monsoon is towards its end in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The drive from Pune to Indore is a scenic one in monsoon for sure with its beautiful skies sometimes covered in dark cottony clouds, sometimes broken with the clear blue skies peaking behind them. Weather is pleasant in Maharashtra in monsoon but in M.P. weather is little humid if rains, yet bearable. Overall, is it worth to do a roadtrip in Monsoon ??
Absolutely yes !! Leave whatever is your destination, the monsoon play views on the way itself will make it up to you for your time and efforts.

Pune to Indore Road Conditions:
Road till Nashik are okay however post MIDC Chakan it is a single lane road so speed was less. Once we hit the four lane highway, we maintained speed of 70-90 KMPH.
Road conditions in Maharashtra are poor and riddled with potholes and multiple constructions going on currently, if compared to roads in M.P. However, roads in M.P. are smooth with fewer potholes but you need to be cautious in Ghats and keep an eye on the road always as many cows roams in national highways freely. So keep your speed controllable. Rest road till Indore is great.

Route Taken :
* There are two routes from Pune to reach Indore. One is Pune to Indore via Shirdi and another is Pune to Indore via Nashik.
* The distance is less in the route via Shirdi which is 588 kms and the distance via Nashik route is 609 kms.
* We took the route via Nashik inspite of the extra kms as the road conditions are very poor in Shirdi route and it have heavy traffic mostly.
* We started with this below route from Pune till Khalghat:

but later we had to change our route after Dhamnod as Narmada Rivers Barrage got damaged in a village on that route and water was overflowing on roads. The M.P. traffic police instructed us to take the route via Maheshwar to reach Indore.
* This route was mainly crossed via small villages and Ghats and was a single lane road till Umariya. The road was very scenic with lush greenery but it was long and slow. The road condition is good mostly but the road condition is poor between Jam Gate and Umariya till you connect back to NH. Below is the route link, if you wish/choose to take this scenic route, have an extra 2 hours and not in rush to reach Indore faster:

Trip Suggestions:
*Try to start early from Pune in order to avoid traffic of MIDC Chakan. You will get city traffic while entering Indore as there is a DMART in outskirts and attract good crowd on weekends.
*Make sure your car is serviced, check engine oil and wheel alignment/balancing, so that it may not cause any distress on the roads and should be at its best.
*We made this trip easy and pleasant to explore by making lill preps for monsoon, like keeping raincoats, umbrellas, waterproof bags for carrying electronics and essentials, rainy shoes, wearing dry fits mostly, and easy and healthy snacking options on the go incase of heavy rains or less food joints on the way.
*Monsoon end is actually a good season to explore M.P. as it is mostly planes and flat lands, so green and scenic in monsoon but its hot in other seasons except NOV-JAN.
*You will get lots of restaurants till Sangamner so try to have early breakfast till Sangamner or you can surely try Akash Missal House. Good food, clean washrooms. Good restaurants are fewer on Nashik-Indore stretch so either have an early lunch in Nashik or late lunch before Indore.
