We could learn a lot about how to deal with adversity by looking at the way dogs like Tonka handle it. I often think we humans don't deserve such amazing creatures like dogs; they are simply amazing.

I've worked with a shelter before and 3 types of dogs are the most difficult to rehome. Lage scary-looking dogs(especially pit bulls, Rotties and other black dogs), senior dogs and dogs with disabilities. The last one is the most difficult because nobody wants to care for a dog with special needs. 😪😪 Very happy to see this one get a forever home these people are great💖💖

What is your problem with dogs being black ?
@Nothing-zw3yd
2 жыл бұрын
My brother adopts rescue Rotties, he's had 7 or 8 so far. He'll especially go for the senior dogs. They don't have too many years left when he gets them, but those years are the best for them. They've all been amazing pups. The one he has now was so afraid of everyone and everything when he got him, but now he's a big mushy lovebug with everyone. Even cats!

@@Nothing-zw3yd I don't know why people think big dogs are rabid beasts that eat our children! Maybe it's the media but I honestly don't know. Big dogs are my favourite especially rotties because they big lovers and they love hard forever. Your brother is doing a wonderful job we need more people like him!

O. M. G. This is one of the best things I've seen in a long time. Tonka is an inspiration. When you are having a bad day and feel like whining over the small things In life, take a look a Tonka. See him whining? No! He pushes forward from the love he has found. Brings tears to my eyes. Love you, Tonka!

I adopted my Hope, then named ginger, from Brooklyn NY ACC 9 years ago. She was about one year old. They were killing her the next day as she was an owner surrender and they only let is dogs stay for 3 days. I saw her on a Facebook share the volunteers posted to save her and fell head over heels. Once glance, I knew she was my Hope. But she was so flipping adorable that I thought for sure she'd get an offer of a home, and I had an elderly American bulldog that didn't like other dogs. I could see her front elbows were bowlegged and she only had 2 toes and her dew claws on both front feet. Her front legs were also shorter than her back legs, so her back was arched. She looked so sad. By evening, (I had continued to check her post every hour), no one had offered her a home. So I asked how I could adopt her. Amsterdog rescue replied. They could pull her and there was free transport to New England areas. I lived in Rhode Island. Amsterdog did all the leg work for me and I met my baby in CT to bring her home. She had kennel cough, and was being treated, so I couldn't let my resident dog meet with her for about 10 days, which helped him get used to her through the bathroom door. I wish.i could post pictures here because the second she got into my car, her face changed to this sweet, happy, mischievous eyed smile! I call it her, "I just got adopted face." She and my Chance, when they met, weren't buddies, but he didn't try to hurt her. So I was very pleased! Sadly, my Chance passed away a few days after in his sleep. I was holding him. Hindsight, I think he was waiting so I wouldn't be alone. When he felt Hope could get me through, he passed his torch onto her. Hope has trouble walking, it was fairly bad back then because she probably wasn't walked often. I was doing PT with her (my eldest pit bull, Pac, had DM.) And taking her for short walks. Doctors didn't think there was anything to do but keep up the pt and light exercises. She already had degenerative arthritis. She now hobbles, but she refuses to miss her daily walks, unless it raining or snowing hard, and she needs a few breaks while walking, especially in the warmer weather. People crack up watching her because she'll just decide, "break time!" And plop on the sidewalk for 2-5, minutes. Lol. I was using a stroller, especially for the warmer weather (that seems like when she gets more easily tired), but I found she had more trouble walking. Our vet said probably because she wasn't walking enough to get more exercise to loosen her joints, so I stopped using it and we only use it in long distances that would be impossible for her to walk. She's now on medication, was always on supplements and she's happiest walking to parks to sit on benches and people watch. She hasn't ever met a stranger. I am disabled due to chronic daily migraine, but seeing what could be an obstacle for her and seeing her overcome it, makes me push through too. She's my whole world!

A wonderful and happy story! And I also want to encourage you to not let him overdo it - perhaps not go as far as he wishes. I'm a pediatric PT, and most of the kids I work with have neuromuscular conditions (which I know Tonka doesn't) - the common factor is poor alignment, which takes a toll over time, causing premature aging of the joints. Movement is excellent and essential, and tending to conservation of his musculoskeletal system is also important for the long haul. I'm thankful you have each other!
