Might be nice to show your yield at the end... or at least the solution after actually turning dark brown / black. That way people know what to expect, how long to wait, and that it works.

@@omsingharjit It is mostly seen on historic buildings. I don't think you can use it for a modern building anymore. You can still buy lead roofing sheets though. Keep in mind that a solid piece of lead won't do you any harm. It's only if salts of lead enter your body that you'll be poisoned.

That is ok, nothing to be embarrassed about. KMnO4 is very difficult. My attempts have been basically failures also. Some purple colored substance, no crystals. I'm always on the lookout for a better procedure with decent a yield.

hello, I want to ask, I have tried to make manganese dioxide by electrolysis. I'm confused, when should I stop the process, do I have to do it until the manganese sulfate solution turns black? I hope the master is willing to provide an explanation ...

You can stop if either there is no mnso4 left or you think you have enough manganese dioxide. It is really up to you!

@@fatih.73jtxditonton43 Most of the time there are also byproducts formed. Mainly Mn(III) and Mn(II) oxides and oxohydroxides. They are brown. Try heating the precipitate in an open container in the air to around 350°C. This drives off water and oxidizes all compounds. A frying pan is ideal.

@CatboyChemicalSociety

@@ShroomLab yea its probably a layer on the anode itself and overall what was the yield of MnO2 you gotten. anyway conversion of MnO2 to permanganate is hard even with pure MnO2. they mostly use Mn metal membrane electrolysis in sodium or potassium carbonate. Mn metal is easy to get using manganese chloride and a carbon electrode as the anode which forms a nice plate of deposited Mn metal on the cathode.

Hello. To make some good yeild of permanganate, you can electrolyse some manganese metal. Link(look down to Romain's post) : www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=8480&page=16#pid499618 I would really like a video on that! It has never been done before, and I can't get my hands on some Mn. In my country ( Romania ) it is highly ILLEGAL to posses Permanganate. Been struggling to get some for weeks.
