Third ascent (14/04/2024).
FA Adam Watson 2014.
From insta post:
"A long term project, not necessarily in terms of session count, rather, it's the only project of mine in which the working process began 'pre injury'. In fact, my first session on the route (Feb 2023) was to be my last day of hard climbing for the next 10 months!
After returning to full fitness, I owed it to myself to revisit the route 'that brought me out of it'.
'Purgatory' is truly a fitting name for the whole experience.
.
It's difficult to see from the video but the lead didn't quite go according to plan. After managing to stick the dead-point to the blunt arête, my ring finger popped off the poor (three finger) crimp/pocket hold below. Being at full extension and due to the awkward nature of the hold, I found myself unable to readjust back to three fingers, making the following 'ninja flick' move just that bit more insecure and committing!
.
Note to self - always try the top outs when head-pointing bold routes. Not all those flutings are jugs!
