Yeah, well, they stretch analogies and metaphors extremely far, to the point where they could be talking about several different things in many of their songs. It's a very good strategy, using extremely visceral and emotionally charged lyrics that have multiple possible meanings, so that many more people can empathize with them or imagine these songs are what they wish.
@benjaminkraft5309

Actually this song seems pretty... well it seems to be about sex and murder, probably the first leading to the second, although I'm not sure exactly how... I think the "Lofticries" might actually be the screams of a victim for help...

It’s my favorite song too. I can only explain it by addressing that my partner and I have been able to reconcile many differences when putting this song on after a fight we end up just listening quietly and holding hands. The lyrics, although they seem whimsical at first, are quite dark and mean a lot to me personally. I would imagine the lyrics mean different things to different people but I can’t help but find the melody and the words so meaningful. And I agree with you in that I never get tired of it.

i believe this video is about the transience of life and about the cycle of birth and death. in the first scene, the woman is seen holding a newborn with blood in front of her (beginning of life/the sacrifices women have to make in birthing a child); in the second, a boy pokes at a dead body in the pool (inevitable death/muddy water indicating that we come from the earth and eventually go back to it); in the third, two people are conceiving in the back seat of a small limo as a woman walks through the rain (the inception of life/rain symbolizes redemption, or a new start at something); and in the fourth, the older man places the young woman in the chair, and the entire scene is white -- including the clothes they wear (i haven't been able to figure out this symbolism, though i know the color white typically represents innocence in some form).
@OG_Castro

Meaning of video: purity ring. Ring being the circle of life and in each scene you see each stage of life birth, youth and adulthood. then purity is irony in this case because each scene ends in death. Also explains the reason for the "cries" to be part of the song title. im baked so this is jsut a guess

I think I completely get this song meaning now. At the beginning, we see a guy who feigns piety and religious righteousness, but basically impregnates his girlfriend and forces an abortion on her..... scene 2 is the guy on the playground who walks by someone who is homeless and in need, and only tries to help him after he's dead in the pool (not helping at all) basically a play on society ignoring those in need. Third scene, a prostitute with a red umbrella(symbology here) is waiting at a car garage for a pick up, ignoring the herse behind her(someone is having sex in it) because the theme is she's spreading HIV? or other things that are killing people and she ignores it.... 4th scene, A germaphobic old man who thinks he's done the right thing keeping himself free of contagions(sterile environment) he drinks milk(something generally kids do), wears white, but then when he goes to pick up a young girl in a child-like dress, her stomach glows, meaning he's gotten her pregnant, and that's how he's avoiding all the nasty things he worries about... This song is about how people see themselves, versus how they really are

+Ashley Pope I think it has more of a Dissociative Disorder theme. That basically means being severely withdrawn. Like the guy doesn't want to deal with his girlfriend stillbirthing. The other guy only casually fishes/pokes at the clearly dead body. The girl's probably ignoring someone getting raped. And finally, notice how the pregnant girl in the mental institution's belly is glowing, like the inside of that limo was glowing.. She was probably raped there, became dissociative from the experience, and was forced to be institutionalized. And the glowing's symbolic of either hope for better, because of the conception, and pregnancy, or the baby being branded as doomed to repeat the cycle. That's my take.

This is an incredible and amazing song. Here my two cents on what the song is about. There are a lot of biblical references like “asunder”, “lofticries” and “woes” in this song. And I suspect the writer might have endured a stict religious upbringing. “Lead our woes asunder” is straight from the Bible. “Lofticries” is a play on “lift our cries” which is used repeatedly throughout the Bible and with “weepy chests with weepy sighs” shows the writer’s own experience with guilt-driven repentance. “You must be hovering over yourself watching us trip on each other's sides” is cynicism and a reference to God watching from above, most likely enjoying the comedy since we are tripping over each other. I know it doesn’t make sense that he would “hovering oneself” but I think this is irony since God is everywhere, and yet he is watching from above. So God would be hovering over himself, like in Genesis where the Spirit of God hovered over the waters. I have difficulty with the “dear brother” section, but i think this is the combination of an incident or ceremony from the writer’s own experience and the stories of Jesus’s healings. The paste is the stand-in for the mud that Jesus used to heal the blind and the deaf, thus the reference to the “sockets and earholes”, its purpose being to “patiently heal you”. The following “bead-weighted test with lofticries” are catholic pray beads, again another sign of religious guilt.

Nice interpretation actually :) I think the part about "You must be hovering over yourself watching us trip on each other's side" can be fit in with a a few punctuations, making it "You must be hovering over yourself, watching us trip on each other's side." as in you yourself (personally) must be hovering over, watching them. Its not perfect prose, but sentences can work like that in poetry, which the song is.

Really nice, man, makes far more sense than other explanations. Also, I'm pretty sure it's "bead-weighted chests" -- you know, someone is wearing beads on their neck hanging down to their chests.

lofticries...I connect this word to loftiness which is a synonym for dignity. dignity is the state or quality of being worthy of honor and respect. this video shows 4 different lives, all deemed by society of not worthy. a father walking out on his child. a grown boy wasting time, trying to figure things out, a women being promiscuous, and the fourth scene is still a mystery to me but I think it goes along the lines of mental patients. Lofti cries because all these people are just trying to survive and no-one understands this and gives them the respect they deserve for being alive. we are all one. there should be no judgement because in the end it would be judging yourself. and thats not what god wants. god doesn't want to be hard on us, so we shouldn't be like that to ourselves or other people. even in the lyrics which are very cryptic due to probably LSD. "You must be hovering over yourself (reflecting on yourself) Watching us drip on each other's sides (watching us live our lives, connecting with those around you consciously or not) Dear brother collect all the liquids off Of the floor Use your oily fingers Make a paste Let it form" (becoming one with all and fully aware) this sums up what I just said. Beat weighty tests with lofty cries (passing society moral code) Lofty cries with trembling thighs (not being respected in society ) Weepy chests with weepy sighs Weepy skin with trembling thighs her verses are more personal and this talks about her experience of not being respected by society. For her sins that she has shown from processing emotions of a toxic relationship where she was cheated on and gaslighted. going through jealousy and pride, trying to figure out what to do after realizing whats happening. (bellispeaks is about discovering the truth of her relationship) lofticries is the aftermath from expressing her "negative" emotions and having society disrespect her for doing so. As if we are not allowed to feel in this world. (verse 1) Green, green thunder and the loud, loud rain Lead our woes asunder Neath the proud, proud veins Of trains let bleed the gunmen of our Pumping earthly hearts Wean our joys in plunder Peel our shining teeth Bid our hold on happiness (verse 2) Let it seep through your sockets and ears Into your precious ruptured skull Let it seep let it keep you from us Patiently heal you Patiently unreel you jealousy, wrath and pride are all sins, keeping you from heaven. she realizes what she is doing but its what her heart feels and in all reality she is innocent as she stays pure in her expression. that she is alive and these are emotions people should accept as what it is. what hurts the most is not having the support of her peers and the ones she feels connected too as she goes through all this alone, internally and out. but its the only way to still be alive and well again, we all have to do it. society has taught us to be numb and to avoid ever going through this and the ones that do are hated for it as if they were never allowed to feel in the first place. because god forbid you to get mad/jealous but cheating is okay...if you are a white male I must add. just my perspective to things

From what I understand, this song is a telling of a brother and sister who are raped and abused by their father, who then murder him in order to free themselves. Below is my interpretation of the lyrics as I understand them. "Green, green thunder and then the Loud, loud rain Lead our woes asunder 'Neath the proud, proud veins" * This opening line I think refers to gunfire and the 'loud rain' is the blood and the cries of the victim. Leading their woes asunder - the destruction of their tormenter. "Of trains let bleed the gunmen of our Pumping earthly hearts Wean our joys and plunder Peel our shining teeth Bid our hold on happiness" * Describing the tormentor as the 'gunmen of their hearts', letting him bleed. This verse describes the relief and security as they are now free from him. "Beat weighty tests with lofty cries Lofty cries with trembling thighs Weepy chests with weepy sighs Weepy skin with trembling thighs" * The chorus, describes the abuse itself. Beat weighty tests - the father beating them, testing their resolve, describing their cries of pain and anguish. Trembling thighs, referring to the rape, 'weepy chests' to me sounds like sad or broken hearts, 'weepy sighs', the weeping of the girl being abused and the weepy skin is her father's perspiration. "You must be hovering over yourself Watching us drip on each other’s sides Dear brother collect all the liquids off of the floor Use your oily fingers Make a paste Let it form" * I think here she is talking about the phenomenon felt by victims of abuse, when they disassociate and almost feel like they are watching it happen to someone else. Then she says 'dear brother collect all the liquids off the floor' - cleaning up the blood. I'm still a bit puzzled by the 'oily fingers' and the making of the paste. "Let it seep through your sockets and ears Into your precious ruptured skull Let it seep let it keep you from us Patiently heal you Patiently unreel you" * This verse is, for me, the most beautiful. I think she is talking about the father's body being reclaimed by the earth, 'healing' them all of his earthly sins. Keeping him from them forever and taking back what he took from them.

um it's not just an opinion. It's an informed one. The song is known to be about a brother and sister who murder their abusive father to escape him. So your comment only makes you look ignorant and judgemental.

Babies have "lofty cries." Women giving birth (or becoming pregnant) have trembling thighs. Scene one - new baby born two - kid plays on slide, then deals with dead body in water three - woman in rain parks near hearse in garage (death) with sex inside four - guy drinks milk in sterile environment and picks up blind pregnant woman. Compare four to one... It's all life/death themes, but also a comment on the treatment of childbirth in modern/pre-modern life... No?
