Alisdair Owens & Andrei Dukhounik present: Pushing past PostgreSQL’s vertical scaling limits - Running Amazon RDS
Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) operates a variety of large, very-high-throughput PostgreSQL databases in unusual architectures. Over the years, we've experienced substantial performance and availability challenges that we've had to mitigate. We'd like to share our experience in maintaining large PostgreSQL instances that reach vertical scaling limits, our long-term solutions, how we bought time when migrating to more performant architectures, and our thoughts on where PostgreSQL can invest to push vertical scale.
