Wow Doris Day 🥰 🥰 🥰 I could listen to her sing all day long. Her voice is so beautiful, pure and angelic. She is so unique and there will never be another quite like her.

This beautiful, classic, and upbeat song is one of my favorite songs from the classic 1948 movie Romance on The High Seas! I was born in 1978. Thank you for posting and sharing this movie magic! I love it!

Here we are 73 years later and you can see Chloe Feoranzo do this number in grand style and play killer clarinet to boot. Civilization still glimmers.

You can take the moon, gather up the stars And the robins that sing merrily Put 'em in a box, tie 'em with a ribbon Throw 'em in the deep blue sea You can take the flowers, down in lovers lane And that sentimental poetry Put 'em in a box, tie 'em with a ribbon Throw 'em in the deep blue sea Not for me, all that stuff The dreams that ruin your sleep Not for me, had enough Love is one thing you can keep You can take the plans and the wedding bells And whoever sings, "Oh, promise me" Put 'em in a box, tie 'em with a ribbon Throw 'em in the deep blue sea 'Cause love and I we don't agree Hansoms through the park, kisses in the dark All the promises made faithfully Put 'em in a box, tie 'em with a ribbon Throw 'em in the deep blue sea And you won't go wrong if you take a song Sung by Frankie Boy or Mr. C Put 'em in a box, tie 'em with a ribbon Throw 'em in the deep blue sea Not for me, all that stuff Not for me, had enough You know what to do with good old tea for two And the girl for you, the boy for me Put 'em in a box, tie 'em with a ribbon Throw 'em in the deep blue sea 'Cause love and I we don't agree Songwriters: Jule Styne / Sammy Cahn

For someone who was a band singer, she was a natural when it came to acting. She could do it all sing, act, dance, comedy, drama and she excelled at everything. She was nominated for a Oscar for Pillow talk, but also she should have been nominated for The man who knew too much and midnight lace.

I was friendly with Page Cavanaugh and Al Viola in their later years and Page told me they recorded three slightly different versions of this song with Doris. The director Michael Curtiz came into the studio to listen to them and said they were all wrong...he wanted it to be angrier. The recording engineer said he had one more take which confused Doris and the trio. Then he just replayed the first take but turned up the volume loud and Curtiz said PERFECT!!!

Curtiz took to Doris immediately and assured Jack Warner he'd make Doris a film star with her first movie. He did. Unlike other performers, Curtiz treated her nicely and was quite patient with her. This story sounds about right for the irascible Hungarian director. Thanks for sharing it!

This couldn't have been her film debut!! Such an assured, confident, performance of both singer and actress- illustrating the staple of a movie musical: the character's emotion through song. And Doris was sooo wonderful in her 'girl singer with a band' roots, as shown here with the Page Cavanaugh trio.

Cranky, but great director Michael Curtiz told Jack Warner Doris would be a big star almost immediately, and she was. Curtiz worked very hard to be sure all her scenes were star-making ones. Day also credited her new friend, the wonderful Jack Carson, for helping her in her first film. I love this picture and "It's a Great Feeling", which is probably even better! This was the first " grown up" song my piano and voice teacher coached me on as a kid. We'd sit at our pianos and duet on it. Wonderful memory, so thanks for sharing it.

I've loved this song ever since I first saw the film. Doris had an amazing voice with the quality of a tenor sax. Started as a big band singer and progressed to a major film star. One of the highest paid in her day. Unfortunately she fell out of fashion when the "nifty fifties" ended and the sexy sixties began. An amazing talent and a wonderful person too. Thanks Doris for so many hours of pleasure.

Was that a "real" trio with Doris? Can anybody identify them?
shouldn't have said "settled." Doris was a band singer and a recording artist, and had never made a movie. director Michael Curtiz took a chance on her in a starring role "introducing" they billed her, and a Warner Bros. musical star was born. she was a very good singer, but i much prefer Garland. Hutton didn't have the voice of either of them, as she readily admitted. but she had a buoyancy and a spirit that were all her own, and made her a very big star at Paramount. she was terrific in MGM's Annie Get Your Gun (replacing a sick and ailing Judy), and would have been equally terrific as Ado Annie in Oklahoma!, R&H's first choice, but, unwisely, she turned them down, the part wasn't big enough, she said, and probably regretted it. she never made another musical movie.

I just watched the movie for the first time. I indeed expected an "introducing..." sort of billing for her, but no: she was one of the four stars billed before the title.
