Great video, as always. couple of things you didn’t cover that are worth pointing out. As mentioned in another comment, it does have a tuner. The hot knobs can be assigned to multiple parameters at once, across multiple effects. With the TonePrint editor you can go crazy deep. Adding a midi controller really blows it open as you can adjust the hotknobs via midi. TC are constantly being asked for the ability to swap user created TonePrints. Hopefully one day that will come.

The hot knob mapping follows the effect, not the position. You can set one hot knob to control a parameter on all effects so it would not make sense to swap functionality of a knob because you swap signal direction

Why oh why did they use the compromise of analog knobs which make the interior settings **jump** as soon as they are touched? It’s understandable when a pedal has no display, but this pedal has a huge display plainly showing what those settings are. But still we get analog knobs causing confusion. It should have free-spinning, unmarked rotary encoders that simply alter the settings wherever they happen to be.

Except it’s missing a lot of midi functions. I’ve been using it live for a year and I have a live hate relationship with it. Sounds are great although I feel like they are a shade behind the other dedicated pedals. My flashback x3 was lusher sounding with the same presets. As far as midi goes there is a audio gap when sending PC messages. So you need to arrange your banks with sounds you want to use together and have that be enough for a whole song. Also no midi clock so no off board tap tempo or beat sync. As far as controlling parameters you can control the hot knobs but nothing else. One last quirk. It can not receive PC messages and CC messages at the same time. So you need to send those separately or at least with a delay. I wish they would fix some of these simple issues as then it would be a stellar pedal

I thought the Plethora x5 was going to mega-popular, but it wasn't. I think it's simply too big, which is why I think the x3 is going to be more popular. I guess some people expect a multi-effects pedal to have amp models and distortion, but I think it fits perfectly on a board where the basic tones are already set and all it needs are time, pitch, modulation and compression effects, plus an online library of tone prints. It should be a winner in my book, and I predict we'll start seeing it show up on pro boards soon. Of course, I've been wrong before. 😃🤘🏼🎸

@TheBlackSheepMM
Жыл бұрын
The only reason these haven’t been selling/not as popular as they could be is because the midi implementation/auto save is terrible. I have one and the concept is great and it sounds good put they never intended it to be used in a pedalboard setup and it shows in the way it functions. It makes using it in any other way then stomp box mode very very difficult. If you make any changes say in a live context it saves over what you have and when you change between “boards” it doesn’t go to default state it goes to whichever pedals were on/off last making it useless for preset jumping without extensive midi messaging and delays. Also the midi doesn’t detect clock. So the midi shouldn’t have been included or they should have implemented way better. Good pedals….not finished haha
@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist
Жыл бұрын
All very true. This calls for a pretty potent midi controller if you really want to make it dance. The lack of midi clock as well has always pointed this to be a fairly simple use pedal. It has come a long way, but really needs finishing up.

This thing would be an amazing thing to buy except there are no drive pedals. I get their logic, but personally, it's hard not to spend more and get an HX Stomp instead. It will do almost everything this does well and much more. I wanted to get this because the interface is exactly what I want but if I'm replacing pedals, I'd like to replace them all. This isn't meant to bash TC but hope someone sees this complaint and decides to put some drive pedals in there even if they have to charge more. It doesn't make sense to buy this over a stomp unless money is a major obstacle. And if that's the case, I'd say there are other things to buy instead. I want to get this but it has limitations.

The Plethora X3 is perfect for me. I already have my gain/EQ pedals and I like having those analog and standalone. I have a Walrus SLÄRP (Slö+ARP87) for optional ambient stuff at the end of my chain, and the Plethora fits perfectly in between for all my modulation needs! I can even make room by getting rid of my tuner, and I was planning on getting a Quintessence as well and Plethora ALSO has literally that built in. 😭🙌🏽 Can’t wait to pick one up!!
@fromfilmtocode

The physical pedals can hold one Toneprint, but according to their website this can save "75 TonePrint Slots Per Effect". This is big. I see that after compression it goes to modulation or time based pedals. What if you use many gain pedals like od, dist, fuzz? I like the compressor to be after the tuner, compress the clean into gain, then modulations and time. Maybe this board is not as handy for rock players. Not to mention the Sentry which has a build in loop. How does this work here? Could you add extermal pedal signals in between the 3 pedals of this? (Edit: I have the Sentry and the Skysurfer and they are really great.)
@stoneysdead689
Жыл бұрын
Most ppl don't run compression on distorted or overdriven signals- unless they're playing through a solid-state amp. I used to do it when I played through a Peavey, and it made it sound better- but not on my tube amp. My tube amp adds a lot of compression all on its own and will not tolerate any compression in front of the amp. You can put it in the fx loop but even then, you can only use a little- otherwise you lose a bunch of volume, and it's so overly compressed it sounds really muffled and muddy.
@fromfilmtocode
Жыл бұрын
@@stoneysdead689 I see. Maybe that's why the comp works for me right after the guitar. I just have and use a small Blackstar 15E Debut amp. It makes OD and dist pedals sound nice. Not so much on fuzz, I am new to guitars and it seems the most difficult effect to control and make it sound good.
