The Russian military is very rigid and it relies on the officers to make every tiny decision. It doesn't have a strong NCO core like we do, and expects very little from an individual soldier. They do OK in static defence, and somewhat OK in offense, provided enough logistics are supplied, but always take massive losses to their manpower. Overall this way of fighting is ill suited for the modern world I suspect that regardless if Russians will get to keep any of the land they stole, in the long term their economic power and international position will degrade significantly compared to pre-war.

This invasion has shown Russian is very short of resources. The Russians are digging in around Kursk. They are finishes as an aggessor army. This is the time for Ukraine to be bold and turn to the East and move behind the incursions East of Kursk. The West must commit to this move and supply everything nessisary to finish this battle Victory Ukraine(:-)

I think this goes towards the saying or metaphor. If you throw a frog into a boiling pot it will jump out. If you put a from in a pot and slowly bring the water to a boil it will not hop out. The Russian people of Kursk have been getting better treatment from Ukraine than they have from Russia. Another saying is that truth comes out a little at a time. The people of Kursk are being occupied and treated better than they have ever been under Russia. Countries and politics aside people can see “in from their own eyes” when some actually cares for them. This war aside it comes down to humanity. I fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. People ask me if I thought it was worth it. I tell them “I fought for a tiny village that no one cares about. I fought for them not some government or religion.. or whatever other purpose, but only to let some scared family sleep in peace one more night”.

Granted they get technical help from the West but Russia has plenty of tech and are still almost useless. If Ukraine sees this thing through to victory I can see Ukraine doing great things. They'll have a wise, hardened, dedicated and patriotic population that will give them an edge in many scenarios. I can even see them becoming a leader in the region if they can get their historic curruption problems under control. Slava Ukraini! from America.

I respectfully disagree with most views expressed here. The kursk offensive is a military success, however it doesnt yet constitute a turning point in the war. I would imagine it will only make the russian regime more resolved than before. I may be wrong, but my head tells me russia still has the upper hand, they will think of ways to work this incursion to their advantage, and simply turn on the screws tighter on ukraine. Ukraine is even more stretched than russia, they are kidnapping men from the streets to send to the front, ukraine is on the ropes and this is a desperate move. Aid from Western countries will inevitibly dry up.
@jrd33
21 күн бұрын
I wouldn't disagree but the Ukrainian invasion has really helped Ukrainian morale and has possibly increased the chance of Western nations offering more aid. Not sure what effect it will have on the Russian people but it can't be good. Refugees are always bad for morale. Russia is winning the military war but war is not always decided by armies.

There’s a retired American general by the name of Hodges, who also offers commentary about the war, saying he doesn’t know what to make of the Ukrainian army’s incursion into Kursk. As though the situation is a total blank to him. In other words, he really can’t say if there’s any military advantage for the Ukranians. All of which seems so contrary to what Hamish is saying. However, I’d like to think that for the Ukranians to be inside of Russia would at least be an existential threat to Putin.
@juanengelaar7069

Ukraine is showing the world that Putin and his nuclear threat is and has been a deflating balloon. Ukraine has shown Russia that in order to occupy foreign territory, you don't need to destroy everything above grass level. Ukraine is showing the world and the Russian public, that they aren't the real enemy, and that POW and the civilian population is being treated very well by the Ukrainians. Ukraine has shown that there are no red lines, and that the western countries have been afraid for decades over nothing. Pure bluff. Ukraine now has something to offer, if and when peace negotiations start, before the Special Military Operation in Kursk, they had a very bad negotiations position. Ukraine has obligated Russia to withdraw military forces from the east front, into Russia. Ukraine has shown the world that the Russian superpower status, is purely based on it's nuclear weapons, but that the regular military forces are weak, they have no leadership, no modern weapons, no nothing. Ukraine has shown NATO, that in a real conventional war, without the use of nuclear weapons, NATO and it's modern weapons equipment, walk over Russia in 2 weeks. This is a win win situation for Ukraine, the west, for NATO and the world.

Perhaps it’s Ukraine that should administer, Russia and Bielorussia. Ukraine should get back all historical territories. Russia proper stops at the Urals and lands beyond decide their own futures. Crimea becomes a totally demilitarized international tax haven territory. Ukraine takes control of the tri-pact military and ensures the defence of the new entity. Kiev becomes the capital and Moscow and Minsk become regional administrative cities. Moldova, Georgia, Chechnya are made whole again and can decide what to do next as far as sovereignty is concerned. Kaliningrad is offered to Lithuania, Poland in that order. Next China. 😉
