Wow. I’m so happy I found your Channel. I got certified in auto-body and refinishing 30 years ago. I have not done a car or repair in 25 or so years, because I landed in a different career. I got a square body chevy to restore and teach my sons, and was a little lost at all of these “experts” and how much things have changed. But, they have not changed as much as these “experts” say. Im thankful.

Pete I had to smile at all the things like the honey, the less expensive body filler, 36/40 grit, cardboard, and similar dent puller is exactly how I teach my high school school auto body students, Students do learn metal straightening using traditional hammer and dolly techniques too. Keep up the good work and you are correct and enjoy your videos and learn something every time even after almost 40 years of doing this.

Love watching your videos I have a company that we strip bodies and epoxy seal. We use 4-5 ways depending on the car to completely strip the metal. After stripping we clean the body really well. Then we powder coat a epoxy primer that is specifically made for liquid and body filler top coating. It sands great we apply really thick so when it is sanded down you don’t hit bare metal. It turns much lighter so you can see your lows really well when sanded Because it is done through electricity and current I can fill inside the panels inside and out underneath, dash belly top bottom, 100% of the car body. You do have to do a light sand before you apply body filler.

So, I’m a little confused. I have an 89 BMW original paint fading in areas and few dents, scratches, chipping and clear coat peeling. Do you recommend taking it to bare metal then applying filler to do bodywork then apply epoxy primer or epoxy primer to bare metal then fix areas needed with filler after sanding areas that epoxy was applied just like your demonstration? Your hood was completely epoxy primered, correct. I’m just trying to understand if it’s needed prior or after applying filler and sanding.

It'll be interesting seeing results. My truck is an original Bondo-mobile. Bondo applied to steel, with de-lamination following. During repairs, I figured I'd try epoxy primer ahead of Bondo so that at least the metal itself was sealed when the filler fell off. I will try very thin layers, and I have done the metalwork to the best of my ability (it's crap by pro standards, but I am proud of it -go figure).

Some guy made a video about “why you never put Bondo on bare metal” and it was like a 10 minute video of him peeling off filler from an unprepped surface and the comments section just lit him on fire 😂 and then he pins his comment at the top saying “sorry, guys, I’m just learning this auto body stuff and didn’t know”. That’s a guy that decided “I’m gonna make an auto body video and give shitty advice even though I haven’t been doing this that long”. So be careful what advice you take from KZitem 😂. PS, this channel, Sylvester customs and MakeitKustom are very very good channels to follow. Always learning something from them every video they post and it’s reliable.

Yeah i saw that video. And that’s what I’m talking about. If he was a square guy he’d remove the video instead of leaving it up for people to get the wrong message. Autobody is funny. Everyone and their brother used to do autobody in some hole in the ground back in the 80's and thinks they're chip Foose. Quality, modern body fillers have zinc in them (zinc chromate is what makes a panel galvanized) and they do a great job at keeping rust at bay. For every handful of bondo applied over epoxy in some concours restoration shop, there's several tonnes of bondo applied DTM all over the globe.
