Boiler Dan what a great idea to help with deploying my Mariner 4. I've added a T-handle to the end , and am toying with the idea or adding a small winch to the end to help with pulling it into place when coming in from the water. Thank you for a well informative video!

Mr. J. Campbell III ; Another update, I had let the T handle drop to a cement ramp and it broke the pvc T. An easy fix, I just slid the thicker pvc pip over the cracked 1” T and that gives me a double thick T handle. I still have trouble bringing it in alone. I have resorted to dragging it out of the water and then tilting the raft up and sliding the dolly under it, just like I do when launching. It does work great for launching! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

would adding a 45 degree fitting to each ends of the pieces the boat sits on make it easier to pull the boat on and off ? A nice piece of kit btw.....

Nit Picking with a few ideas. 1) Instead of drill vent holes, leave the end caps off. See if it has any negative effects. 2) Instead of a steel axle rod, use a piece of PVC w, the OD that matches the wheel bearing ID. Use schedule 80 PVC add an inside & outside large washer then pin the axil to the wheel similarly to other pinned joints . Question, do you launch close to the water or do you dray your boat 100 yards or more? How do the wheels work in sand and uneven gravel?

Sounds like some great ideas for some improvements in design! I have pulled the dolly quiet a long way with out any problems. Not 100 yards though. The air filled tires do well on most any surface. Thanks for watching and making design improvements 👍👍

I recently inherited a 1980’s Coleman Scanoe that I could only barely move on my own to store last season (I might weigh 10 lbs. more than the boat 😂). I’m wanting to make something to get my boat down to the shore for times campground gates are closed but lakes are technically open - IF you can walk your boat 3 city blocks to the water. I’d need to put some kind of stabilizer bars on the cart closer to the hull as well because it doesn’t have a flat bottom and I’ll need both hands to maneuver the cart. Any suggestions the there?

Hmmm; maybe work with angling the PVC PIPE to have it aligned with the shape of your hull? You can angle the pvc in unlimited ways. Maybe duel shafts for additional strength?

Whats the angle between the pulling pole and the platform?
@BoilerDan1
3 жыл бұрын
I did it on a 45 * angle, but not really measuring it. The pole will flex a bit, especially when fully extended so I wouldn’t recommend having it at any slant at all. I’ll add that I still had trouble with it floating.... so the air holes didn’t help. If you have a second person to help guide the boat into place it’s not a problem. But if alone, I end up dragging the raft ashore and then sliding the dolly underneath it on land. I also tie the dolly to the back of my Subaru Forester and slowly pull it to the top of the ramp, saving my strength 😂 Thanks for watching 👍👍
