you should heat an indent to past the center of the width of the riser and have your arrow like that as a shelf. you can put a steel rod inside the pvc pipe to act as a brace and help with the structural integrity of the riser. you could also do it on the other side (neither indent could make it to center in which case) and you could do medetaranian or thumb draw

@totoybalisong6371
4 жыл бұрын
Since you like to help people by making corrections, let me help out, too.. It is called an apostrophe (') not a dash. A "dash" is a slightly longer "hyphen". Kinda like this ( -- )
Okay, we can call them apostrophes, as would be the case for writing, but that isn't always how people explain them in technical drawing. Dashes are simply short line segments whereas apostrophes are used to note quotations and titles. My main point was not to denote what they should be called, but rather which denote feet and inches I am both an English tutor and Technology Education teacher

I really like this concept, I'm curious as to the FPS that the arrows travel at? And what the draw weight is (LB/Pounds)? Cheers! Going to give it a go
@jakemakes
4 жыл бұрын
I don't have a clue as to the FPS, but I'm going to make an educated guess that the draw weight is just under 40lbs. Of course you can easily change that by adjusting the length of the rubber.
@DaPewPewGuy
4 жыл бұрын
@@jakemakes thanks mate, so I made it. Couple of findings along the way. - Our PVC is a bit thinner, the PVC seemed to stretch so i had to remake the limbs. I had to use ellectical conduit down the guts for the limbs, and I put O rings between PVC and Conduit to fill the space. - I can't find plastic pulley wheels, only metal, so I feel the spring will be less due to the weight at the end of each limb. - I cut the limbs at the end, heated the ends up and pushed the wheels down so I didn't weaken the wheel mounts but cutting the gaps out. I think this bow design has good potential, so I'm going to keep playing with it. Is there a sweet spot with the length/amount of rubber to use? I feel too much rubber meas the limbs get more strain on them?

ik this is an old video but try heating and flattening the limbs to give them some flex it will add more power to the bow as a compounds limbs tend to flex even if its just slightly
@jakemakes
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would be nice. More complicated than I wanted to go with this build tho.
@joebloe4461
4 жыл бұрын
On a real compound bow that would be correct. However, I actually think the flex in the limbs is absorbing energy and reducing the bow's power, as this model is powered by rubber.

interesting concept, but there are big vibrations and the release. You shoould add some dampening mechanism to reduce the oscillation. My first try would be 2 strong magnets, so basicly the arms position get locked i the unloaded position.

I think that this design could be made to have a compound bow graduated decreasing draw weight, much like a compound bow with eccentric pulleys, by changing the angle of pull on the rubber bands as it is drawn back. Yes, that could work.
@jakemakes
4 жыл бұрын
Thats actually a good idea....
@liamneely8893
4 жыл бұрын
@@jakemakes Wish I could draw the diagram but I expect you can twig it without that. At the start of the draw, the pull is directly pulling the spring -- at the end, it is approaching 90 degrees from a direct pull and this increasing mechanical advantage reduces the strength needed to pull. This could probably be achieved by having a bend in the arm.

That does look pretty cool, but I was wondering. You keep saying that you want a compact bow but with full draw length, but you never say what the draw length and overall width are. It looks like its only about 15 or 16 inches of draw, with at least 10 inches of brace height. Draw length is what accelerates an arrow, and gives it exponentially more fps, that's why crossbows with short draw lengths have to be 3 or 4 times the power of equivalent longbows. If that is only getting around 16 inches of power stroke then even if it is 40lb it could be equivalent to a 10lb PVC bow that is literally just a 3ft tube and string.

I am about to do just this to my steel magazines for my rifles. that stuff has endless uses
