Exactly, that is why the entire country where wood is accessible it's gone. Everything is burned for cooking, heating, and energy. Even plants that are dried up and normally would break down into the soil in farmland, is cut and used for fuel. That is why their soils are so nutrient deprived that many farmers use human excrement to mix in the soil. Human excrement is a very bad by product to use in planting human food crops, and yet they are forced to use it.

Fantastické záběry čínských, japonských a korejských parních lokomotiv v reálném provozu. Ale to je to jediné, co je na tom fantastické.

The steam locos look like they are of Japanese design, like the C62 or C60.

They were produced for South Manchurian Railway in 1930's or 1940's by Japan.

It's amazing when ever I watch a video about North Korea I amm propelled back into the 1950's. How can a country on one hand try to show the world that they are so modern, and progressive, and then the majority of the country is stuck in the 1950's?

North Korea is the most heavily sanctioned country in the world, my guess is that the sanctions make oil so expensive to get a hold of it is cheaper for them to employ steam trains

North Korea could really make a tourism out of running trains with these steam engines instead of selling them off for pennies
@lucky1206

I say North Korea as a whole could profit so much from tourist from all over the world if they were not so tight lip on their country and citizens. Look at Vietnam, they won the war but now in the 21st Century make billions from tourist that fly in from all over. In Vietnam they are smart because they know money is king but North Korea doesn't want anyone to know how far advance The rest of the world is and how far freedom of speech can go. It's a real shame given all the people who die in North Korea from starvation and most food that is flown in is first given to top officials and the left over is given to the hungry citizens that don't get enough. It's a nation wide of a corporation run by one family here in the USA but in a national level

Those steam engines are the most unsafe I have ever seen ( beside of the USA). I would not buy an ticket for those. BTW worked in Germany as an inspector for steam engines for over 25 years.

The DPRK actually has a preserved fleet that has been used for tours. The one’s in the fleet are in substantially nicer conditions to the ones in the video.

Why do Chinese and North Korean steam locomotives both have an airhorn and a steam whistle?
@dankerthanclanker

The airhorn is pretty much universal in China, so transnational trains would have both.

Call it what we like but I bet they have the lowest car fatalities and the most cleanest air in the world.
@CommunistBot
Жыл бұрын
Actually no. There are still car fatalities, and since they can't import much fuel due to sanctions, they have to burn mostly wood and coal as fuel, so the air is also not great in many areas.
