Wow, you guys are great! Those demonstrations denote REAL, control of your vocal instruments. There are a lot of singing teachers on KZitem that couldn't make 50% of the sounds you demonstrate, yet they still sell expensive courses! Thanks a lot for answering my question it means a lot. You are completely right that I should've changed my approach, and that's what I did! I took a long break and I'm currently trying to smooth the transition from lower notes, C3-D4 up to C5, by doing staccato exercises, trying to maintain the feeling of the onset from that low range without breaking into M2 or pushing. I think that there's nothing wrong with my twang but every time I tried pushing above F4-G4, my true folds would start losing proper adduction, so even if I was using 100% twang compression above them, my body was engaging the wrong muscles to resist the air pressure with the true vocal folds (I think I was over activating my false folds like in pressed phonation), so I ended up both pushing + twang not so much M1+ twang. What do you guys think about it? Does the current CVT method recommend staccato at all? Btw, I think my folds were too swollen due to straining them, since for the first time in years I've been able to sing metallic relaxed notes below E3, like G2 without going into creek mode. Also, my speaking voice lowered by 4 notes and it sounds so much more supported and resonant now. Maybe you should try including "Mixed voice" more in your titles since that's what most beginners singers want to learn because let's face it, they think that's the ultimate goal, even though there are as many "mixed voice" definitions as vocal teachers. That way, you might increase your views and help amateur singers get GOLDEN information and advice from both of you, and not from other teachers that might lead them through the wrong pathaway. I know it might be considered "bait", but is it really bait when you guys are such great teachers and clearly understand what you are talking about? Cheers and thanks once again.

Our pleasure! Hope you enjoyed the reply to the question you posted :) As for "mixed voice", we already have a video about it. As we're both Authorized CVT Teachers and our content is very CVT oriented, I don't think it makes sense to put so much attention on a term that is not a CVT term.

I think staccato is one of the possible approaches. Straining is definitely not the way though, so take care! It's very difficult to diagnose technical issues through comments. The issues that pop up most often with guys trying to sing higher are not raising the larynx enough, locking the support and incorrect vowels for the mode. However, it's really hard to say for sure without hearing you!

Hey guys! After some time (years) trying to understand all of this, I am finally starting to develop some decent reduced-density sounding. As I probably never used edge and rd-edge in my life before and that feels very new to me, I am just wondering if it is expected that I feel the muscles under my chin, the masseter and subocccipitals like they are working out. There is no uncontrolled tension, it's just that it feels like my jaw never opened that much before. There is no pain whatsoever, just to be clear. And if I go for a fuller density sound, it requires much less strength in these muscles, but I can still feel that they're activated. Does it sound expected/correct? Should I get these muscles jacked so it will be easier to sing in this configuration? lol I suppose that will happen naturally of course Thanks for all! You guys were/are extremely helpful in my learning path.

Hey! Very glad to hear you found our stuff helpful! Concerning the activation of those muscles, I find that when they get overly active, it's often because the singer is unconsciously pushing the jaw outwards a bit (protruding the jaw). Try focusing on opening the jaw down and back a bit and see if it helps release some of that tension. On the other hand, if it doesn't feel uncomfortable or too tense, doesn't cause you strain or wear your voice out even with extended use, I wouldn't worry about it too much! Best, Ivan

Hey guys! Love your videos! I would love to hear your analysis on famous singers from the CVT perspective, maybe on famous singers failing and how they could fix it, like the recent bon jovi videos. Anyways, keep up the good work! Looking forward to the workshop.

We have some plans on doing some analysis of specific singers. With fails, it's difficult to know for sure what caused it because there may be lots of reasons under the surface that we don't know about. I've seen some recent Bon Jovi live videos and I'm not inclined to blame it all on vocal technique. We're talking about a professional singer who has been touring the world for almost 40 years at this point and when such massive pitch and rhythm issues where the singer is way off all the time appear, I'd look for a larger fundamental problem. Especially since he was a solid performer in his younger days. Similar recordings surfaced a couple years back with ex-Toto frontman Bobby Kimball and it was revealed that he's been struggling with severe hearing loss. Whatever it might be with Jon Bon Jovi, I'm inclined to believe that his struggles go deeper than singing technique, but it's so hard making a guess like that over the internet about a person you haven't met or had the chance to hear their perspective on what's happening.

Hey thanks for addressing my question! Yes, that is what I am doing. Reduced density. I am singing in the head voice mechanisme, super easy to produce, with lots of twang and volume. For example, a couple of days ago I sang the highest phrase of "my heart will go on" to another singer. First, I sang it in head voice (meaning loud and powerful but effortless) and then I sang it again in full density (probably edge, but not full volume). She said she couldn't really hear a difference and she liked both sounds equally. But the second sound takes me much more effort and concentration to get the right placement.. I am happy I can do both, but I think I should the the easiest one to produce, if even a singer can't really tell the difference..

Thanks for the metaphor and demonstration of RD edge/overdirve vs curbing! By the way, do you plan to dedicate a session for Neutral in the future? Will be really interested in that one! Edit: I know that you guys have touched some bits of Netural in the Registers video, but I really want to hear more of it :)

I wrote a reply, but it didn't go through for whatever reason... We touched upon Neutral in various videos so far and we will definitely continue doing that in the future. But I don't think we'll make systematic videos explaining the modes out of respect for CVI. We aim to create content that's a nice addition to the CVT app and not something to be used instead of the app. However, in our upcoming online workshop that we just announced, we will be going through all the modes in a more systematic manner. If you're interested, you can find more info about the scheduling and how to apply on our website (linked in the description).

@@RockVoxYT Thanks for the reply! Would you consider making this workshop purchasable as in recording form? Because some people like me may not be able to attend it live. And it seems that the promo link for the app doesn't provide a discount for the app. Could you have a check?

We were talking about making the recording available for a limited time to all who join the workshop. So even if you couldn't make it on the scheduled time, you would still gain the acess to the recording afterwards. But let us discuss this further a bit more and I'll get back to you about it. That should be easily arrangeable :) The promo link for the app indeed doesn't include a discount. It includes points for us that get deducted from the price of the updates at CVI. So for you it's the same, but it's a way to support us!

Hi guys, love your videos. I would like to make a question. Everybody talks about the famous 'bite' to find the Overdrive. However, nobody comments on the elements we need to manipulate and how we have to set them (maybe the pharyngeal pillars, tongue, soft palate, embouchure, etc.). The only guideline we generally have is the vowel. Could you help? Many thanks.
@RockVoxYT

Thank you! The bite is not all that complex - just smile and drop your jaw! You could also think of showing your upper teeth.
