The only watches I have ever purchased are ones I like and frankly about 98% of the people out there don’t know a thing about watches…! I’m like you Tony I would never buy a watch to show off or get attention, actually the contrary….. And I knew that about you a long time ago, just like you never really brought up your talent on a guitar…. One of many of the reasons I like your show so much…! Straight shooting watch talk from a watch connoisseur…! 💯👍 Greg P. S. It’s a disease alright…!!!

So you would not buy a watch to show off.......but love being in the '2% Club'? First Rule of 2% Club.......... My take on it is 100% only buy watches you love, but a secondary benefit is definitely pi55ing off the haters if that situation ever arises. There is also a nice feeling in being involved in some of the hype if you do first and foremost like the watch and its not too expensive (thinking Moonswatches/Scuba). I also do not get the whole 'knowing about watches' thing. Sounds snobby lol.

Thanks Tony for answering. I am going to be patient and loyal to the AD for that Root Beer or Batgirl. I think it’s knowing that the watch came straight from Rolex through the AD and into my hands. I just can’t be 100 percent sure who has had their hands on it from the gray market. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate your insight.

I am in the same boat as you waiting for a Rootbeer. I've decided to wait for the same reasons, plus also my AD knows I'll want a couple other models in the future and I don't want to spoil my relationship.
@Casa1000

In the UK, the Rootbeer is now very close to RRP on the grey market. As a result, grey market dealers will offer you RRP or even slightly under. Therefore, these aren’t seen as ‘flippable’ pieces anymore by ADs, and are more readily available than you might think. The 2 ADs near me have this watch for sale today.

I don't like settling, for a watch I might like. I'd rather wait for the one I love. Any time I've settled, when I look down at my wrist, there's a subtle disappointment that I didn't wait:)! Bat girl/Batman over a sprite any day of the week!

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. There are only two Rolex ADs where I live. I have some purchase history with both and have put down my interest with both for a Batgirl but no luck in a while. Do you think it would be a good option to travel a couple hundred miles to another city to register interest with a brand new AD? Thanks Tony!

Another great episode Tony - a question for Q&A - is there a mechanical limitation that prevents a GMT watch from setting the time in half hour increments? My understanding is that there is no G,MT watch made from any manufacturer that does this. I love GMT watches but I live between India and the US and India is 10 1/2 hours ahead of the US ( or 11 1/2 depending on Daylight saving in the US ) and thus the GMT function does not work for me. I even thought of the dual face Reverso and apparently even there the two faces can only be set in hour increments

Hey Tony, another great Q&A. I just realized that a right handed person may want a Sprite for the same reason you prefer the Batman: to have the crown on the side away from the wrist (right handed person wearing it on his left wrist.). Cheers.

Hi Tony, I'm from Scotland and have been following your channel for about a year now. I thoroughly enjoy your content and down to earth nature. My question - when do you think Omega will release a new SMP300 and do you think they'll make changes to dimensions etc? It seems the growing trend is towards smaller watches.

Been eyeing the new Longines Conquest 38mm. Tried it out at a boutique and it looks great and great watch for about 2k. Just one problem is the oddly straight lugs with almost 47mm lug to lug. I have 6.5inch wrists and the watch has a gap between the tip of lugs and wrist. I’m not sure if I should just knuckle it out and get it. It’s like the Rolex sub, those lugs aren’t elegant to the wrist

Hey Tony, real good to hear about Jess being OK ; ) Question for next week...... You have a bit of UK experience, so what are your feelings on the differences between US/UK Rolex purchasing? I am not a fan of US sales styles (but respect them and understand some of the reasons), but the whole "I had to buy jewellery" thing seems very US centric. I have worked in a high end watch shop (not Rolex directly) and have a lot of experience buying high end high street watches outside of that, and its virtually a myth here in the UK IME.

Yo Tony, the intro at the very beginning threw me off. Bit of a loony question for you: Pretty much everyone I have seen says their 41mm Datejust measures somewhere around 39.5mm in diameter when they manually measure it. Do you think Rolex intentionally markets it as 41mm (incorrectly) so it seems like more of a "mens" size? I've always been curious about this because I've heard their 36mm Datejust measures true to size. I know Rolex pride themselves on great quality control, so I am sure the misstated size is not an oversight, but would love to hear your opinion
@anthonyamato6367

If you measure the curvature of the bezel rather than straight across, it comes to 41. When you compare a DJ41 next to a 39mm Explorer 1, the DJ is noticeably bigger.

Hey Tony! I’ve been considering picking up the Zenith Chronomaster Original with the black dial and leather strap but I’ve heard chatter over the years that the el primero movement is “finicky”, overrated and very expensive to service. I guess because of the high beat movement, parts wear out faster? Curious if you’ve had any experience with this or have any thoughts? Thanks!

A guy had 40 luxury watches stolen???? To be honest, if he hasn’t better security in place and he has the money to hold the watches in the first place, then I feel a hell more bad for him, then for a little private guy, having his one and only watch stolen.
