As someone who relies on a power chair to get around most of the time, I think we should be encouraging more wheelchair users to service their own chair if they're able to. Anyone who relies on this equipment will tell you that trying to get it serviced by someone else is a nightmare! I understand that if you don't know what you're doing you can mess your equipment up, but our system makes it so difficult and expensive to actually get what you need that many people will be forced to go without their equipment for long periods of time, if they don't fix it themselves. This could mean anything from having to use an old backup wheelchair that is less than ideal to being bedridden. I got my current chair at the end of June after several years of being in chairs that either did not fit me or didn't function the way they needed to. I keep a couple of back ups around when I can, but I also learn everything I can about my own equipment, so that I don't have to worry about failing equipment. I hope someday the right to repair movement that we see in the Tech industry can expand to wheelchairs.

most of those places are not run by people with handy caps so they don't know what its like to have to wait to walk again so to speak i called this one place and asked for batteries and they would not sell them to because they wanted me to be a client other wise they would not sell me them is that bs or what

Wow. God bless you for this video. The lack of access to a dead battery except via a jumper seems like such a bad design. Especially as I saw a video that showed that the wheelchair chargers don't work if the battery is too drained. My mom has one of these and I have no idea where that little switch for tilting the unit is.

My daughter was gifted a Q6 edge 2.0. The batteries were dead and no "power jumper" came with the gifted chair. I ended up taking the seat assembly off (remove 8 large allen head bolts and disconnect the wheel base at the rear electric connector) the wheel base in order to access to the batteries. The seat assembly is pretty heavy and re-attaching it is a somewhat frustrating 2 (maybe 3) person operation. On the upside, she is really happy to have some powered mobility.

All that is really not a needed. There's a hinge bar just aft of the leg support. Use a 10mm socket and a 5/32 or 4mm Allen wrench to remove the bolt. You'll then be able to fold the leg rest up and remove the batteries.

I didn't need to take it to a shop or use a cable you can't buy that i can't buy to change the batteries on the Quantum chair i worked on. I just took out the screws holding the feet support on and it slid right off exposing the battery cover. No power required. There are 2 allen screws that are longer then they need to be making a little harder to remove then necessary so i will shorten them up before i put them back on. Nice try Quantum but it didn't stop me from changing the batteries.

I have access to the Quantum batteries from the front, but the first battery will not come out. It's as if there's a cable tied to the 2nd battery, preventing the first to be removed. The wiring diagram does not show such a connection, so what's keeping the first battery from sliding out?
@freehof

Cancel that. The batteries had top terminals rather than bolt town, and the thick rubber covers were catching on protrusions. It took some force. New batteries are installed, thanks to lever and fulcrum to raise the chair about 7".

No need to purchase a tilt adapter cable. . Simply remove the front plate with the footrests still in place. Then pull the front battery out a few inches. Charge it up. That will suffice enough energy to tilt the chair and have access to both batteries.

Thank you for your comment. The jumper cable is intended to be used only by trained technicians. It is not provided to the general public because some components of the kit can be plugged in to in appropriate receptacles and cause catastrophic electronic failure and cost thousands to repair. If you have need for this type of service i would recommend contacting the DME provider for assistance.

I removed the batteries without putting the seat back. The legs that came with the chair can be removed. When removed you can access the batteries without raising the seat. You would have to get down on the ground or floor to get to the batteries but they are easy to pull out and disconnect.

The same can be said for roofing nails. I have access to them. Not everyone is a knuckle head. Most of us regular Joe's know perfectly well how to navigate around electricity and are mechanically inclined as well. Probably more so than yourself. So yea, you don't need the all mighty "trained technician" supply cable. Use a couple large finishing nails and some black tape. It'll work just fine, and you won't need to pretend you're a special genius or anything like that. Geeze, get over yourself already.
