As much as I use Sketchup I always either forget about something or learn new things from videos like this. The molding details would be awesome. I have a problem with curves. Now I have a 3D printer I’m finding curves being a very good thing to know.

Another great tutorial Drew! I'm still working with sketchup 8 on my old laptop but since you've started these tutorials I've downloaded 17 onto my newer computer. I would have preferred to stick with version 8 (because I'm used to it) but it's no longer available for download. I loaded some screen capture software onto both computers and the old one can't handle recording very well much less while I'm drawing (it always crashes) so I'm looking forward to being able to capture a clear screen of some drawing action rather than recording the screen with the camera which always makes weird lines in the picture. :)

You're a great teacher man! The program is sometimes overwhelming so I really enjoy the way you're breaking it down. I know a lot of people have moved on to Fusion and other programs but personally I find the free version of sketchup to be more than enough for my needs. It's a powerful program and still probably the best free 3D drawing option for most fabricators. Keep the tutorials coming! I've been learning a lot and I really appreciate you sharing the knowledge.

I know this is an old video, but when you do the copy function and you need more or less. All you have to do, before anything else is re enter the (x) X it will change it. But must be done before you , do any command. Great videos, came looking for woodworking ones.

I tried to copy the circles in the side of the bench by making a copy of the first circle and then typing the x15 and will not work for me. I am using a Windows 10 PC. No matter what I try it gives me an Invalid measurement and will not work. What am I doing wrong?
@rhwoodshop

OK follow these steps precisely. Highlight the circle once you are inside the component of the apron. Then using your move tool, copy the circle and move over to your desired spot and then click, without doing anything else with your mouse, type 15X and hit enter.

@@rhwoodshop Ok, this time it worked. If I set the distance and hit enter, it will not work. I have to set the copy on a mark manually and then enter the amount i want copied for it to work. Thanks for the help.

Wood'n Metal Shoppe yes, correct. Once you hit enter the function has been terminated so you are unable to use the 15X after you hit enter which is why you have to use your mouse on the first move.

Nice video. Try these tips. You can click on the face of the new shape you created and move/copy that instead of all the edges. Also, try the divide function instead of the Xs. Establish 1" guide off both edges of your board. Create the shape of your pin, move/copy to the other edge guideline then divide "/" by the number of pins you want. This will equally divide the space between pins. Want more or fewer pins? Before touching anything else you can just retype the / number to create more or fewer pins.

Great tutorials. Wish to add something about Xs for copy: while the move/copy function still active you can change multiplier. Lets say you did “x15”, but it was not enough, or too much, you can retype “x20” (or “x10” in case if first attempt was too much) until you cover required area with copies

Rock-n H Woodshop this is intended in the most complementary means of all. Besides being very knowledgeable with SketchUp, you are an excellent instructor, and what impresses me equally, is the clarity of your voice, very Jake Tapper (of CNN) sounding. Now I do have a question, is there a way to select a surface, and have surface to rotate if necessary, to show full face, i.e. you have a angled surface, and you want a hole placed perpendicular to that surface, it there a command tool whereby you can click, and the angled surface rotates to show full faced?
@rhwoodshop
4 жыл бұрын
John Work So I’m trying to get this straight in my head what it is that you were wanting. Do you want to know if there’s a way to rotate a specific piece separate from the model that it’s in? Or are you wanting to know how to rotate a specific surface of a piece in a model. Those are two different things so I’m trying to visualize what it is that you’re wanting to know. I’m pretty sure that my later episodes will go over this inadvertently for you. If you haven’t checked out my later episodes, give them a look and see if that answers your question.

Rock-n H Woodshop well I meant when you were showing your assembly table and the shop design, when you placed it in the shop. I watched the 4 part series this video is in and it was extremely helpful. But now I’ve moved on from smaller projects like the bench in this series and moved to larger projects like walls or cabinets and drawers. Anyway, you work bench you copy and paste into your shop shows the drawers open and such. Were you able to make those so that would open and close in the model or just design the drawing with drawer open? I’m ready for you to make an advanced user video series 😁 I love your shop design and want to replicate it as I’m about to build myself a workshop. Thanks for your reply.
