Just 15 minutes from our home lays the little seaside community of Crescent Beach, Surrey, BC (established in the late 1800's.) In the early days, it was a rather remote place to build a summer cottage and now the cottages are giving away to new homes. The body of water you see is Boundary Bay which leads to the Strait of Juan de Fuca and from there to the Pacific Ocean. Off in the distance you can see Mayne and Saturna Islands that are blocking your view of Salt Spring Island and Vancouver Island. This is just a small portion of the Crescent Beach shoreline.
As an FPV newbie with a shiny new quad, I wasn't prepared for the pucker factor that kicked in as soon as I realized that I was flying over water the whole time (for the first time). If it went down, there was no getting it back. It wasn't until I watched the video that I realized I was being way too cautious and flying much more slowly than normal. I'm hoping that with more experience, the pucker factor will ease off. The temperature for this flight was up to a nice balmy -3C and the wind finally died down for a bit.
I hope you enjoy this brief flight. I edited it down to a length that I hoped wouldn't bore you to death. The video gave me a number of clues about how I need to fly in order to make the videos better. Practice, practice, practice!
This was flown with a QAV500 equipped with a GoPro Hero 3 on a Zenmuse gimbal.
