I dont know if it's the setting on the Samsung but the LG looks way better, sharper and clearer! Overall better

I pre-ordered both and I still can't decide. The fan noise of the LG is noticeable for some people and WOLED tends to have terrible grey uniformity (dirty screen effect). On the other hand, QD-OLED seems to have much more noticeable VRR flickering.
@SolaceinScrutiny

I would personally accept the VRR flicker and work my way around mitigating it vs accepting the poor grey uniformity and really bad near black handling of WOLED. On a TV that's so far away its not as noticeable but a monitor that's in your face I can easily spot the vertical bands and posterization of those WOLED weaknesses. Its also panel lottery. My friends LG in comparison is relatively clean and maybe the cleanest WOLED panel I've ever laid eyes on. Both our fans are also essentially inaudible but that's irrelevant because the real issue is noise developing over time.

Why the picture quality of LG 32GS95UE WOLED is sharper than Samsung G80SD QD-OLED? Samung G80SD QD-OLED looks like an ordinary VA monitor. It is not worth to buy comparing with LG.

Why does the woled look so much more saturated? Isn't qd-oled the one with superior colours?
@SolaceinScrutiny

This was done in SDR and Samsung was in its sRGB clamp mode, I had to put the WOLED in FPS preset to raise gamma so it doesn't look so dark on camera. The FPS preset doesn't clamp to sRGB so its oversaturated.

So a bit confused. I have the Samsung G80SD, but why does yours look substantially blurry or less clear than the LG? Also, since you're using VRR, why does the Samsung look like there is screen tearing (or catching) as you move around that is again not visible on the LG?
@SolaceinScrutiny
2 ай бұрын
I had to put the LG in the only mode that didn't crush blacks just so that it appeared more visible in this comparison. That mode forces sharpness by default. In reality they are no different from one another in terms of sharpness.

@@SolaceinScrutiny Thanks for the information. Any idea why the Samsung appeared to tear with movement while in VRR? I finally got around to playing some games, just Anno, and saw the VRR flicker even though it is not a dark or point-of-view game. I could not find settings that reduced the microstutter despite realizing a steady 120fps. Right now I am blaming my ancient CPU which was pegged at 100%. I plan to purchase a second OLED monitor and give the one I like least to a friend who cannot afford it. My experiences and these videos have me strongly leaning toward whatever glossy WOLEDs that are out or coming to market. Any reason to deter and consider a different brand's QD-OLED given your more extensive testing?

A little of topic, but would you say the WOLED's matte coating makes it look significantly worse than the QD OLED in dark rooms and aside from that?
@SolaceinScrutiny
3 ай бұрын
These monitors are both matte. The Samsung is the only QD-OLED with a matte finish so far. Between the two, the LG's matte is a nicer finish. If you're asking whether the LG's matte would look worse than a glossy QD-OLED, I think no. There would literally be almost no difference in a dark room. The difference that exists between glossy QD-OLED and LG's matte WOLED would only really be tangible in a bright room and even then I personally don't find the difference huge.

Generally speaking the QD-OLED has better colors but the LG can at times be brighter if there is a lot of white on screen and it definitely flickers way less when it comes to VRR.

@@Saba-jr8yb Thanks for your reply. Well i see some contradicting story's about the fan noise. Also i am in a room which often is quite hot. And it's just another mechanical part that can cause issues in the future. They should have implemented a passive cooling solution, like Samsung, MSI or Asus. But i think that's about the only negative point for me about this screen. Am curious if it's HDR is also better as the Samsung G80SD.

You can see the frame rate is all over the place from the LG's FPS display. This is with path tracing and max settings so there is a lot of frame time variance. If I lower settings the flicker is a lot less severe because the FPS stabilizes.

@SolaceinScrutiny
3 ай бұрын
4090. The monitor OSD of the LG (and Samsung gamebar) is displaying the real time refresh rate the display is producing with VRR active. The jumps are indicative of LFC engaging to double the refresh rate and disengaging to produce the native refresh rate (52FPS gets doubled to 104, etc). That jumping around is predominantly what causes the flicker on these OLED's.
