It is round, it's just not circular. But those words are not synonyms.

here's a gif that demonstrates the drill in motion. But the motion itself isn't in the center. It moves in a circle. mathworld.wolfram.com/images/gifs/reuleaux.gif

The bit at 0:47 is proof that this show needs someone with work experience with live captioning typing the klaxon screens. It might be wildly impractical and expensive to require such a niche extra qualification for the job, but you can't tell me it wouldn't be brilliant

Back when Mazda was making cars with rotary engines, the rotor was a Reulaux triangle, and the British 20p and 50p coins are seven-sided Reulaux curves.

Whilst not dissimilar to the Reulaux triangle in that it was triangular with curved sides, the rotors in Mazda's rotary engines were not of constant width. The curvature of the sides was not centred on the opposite vertex on the triangle, but slightly further - i.e. they weren't curved enough to be a Reulaux triangle.

The UK became, in 1969, the first country to use a Reuleaux shape in its coinage, and the first to use a septagon, with the 50p. This was later joined by a similarly Reuleaux septagon 20p.

Can you make a Reuleaux threepenny bit?
@inkyscrolls5193

I don't think you could, as it has an even number of sides. To the best of my knowledge a Reuleaux shape must have an odd number.

Basically you draw an arc from one corner to the other with the radius being the length of the sides. Repeat for all three sides. Makes a shape that has a constant width as you turn it.

A cone is a 3 dimensional shape. Triangles, circles and squares are 2 dimensional shapes. Essentially, any drill is either a cone or a cylinder (another 3 diemnsional shape). However, some of these cones and cylinders resemble 2 dimensional shapes like this rounded triangle.

They like making misleading questions on this show cause a reuleaux triangle isn't exactly circular, is it? It's still a triangle shape with rounded edges.
