The voices he uses for women as well, it's not Monty Pyphon woman-with-a-beard, but there's a subtle pitch that establishes it as feminine. I am surprised his McGonagall voice wasn't Miss Jean Brody though.

I once took a trip around Ireland under the auspices of the University of California at Berkeley. We were visiting various archaeological & historical sights. Most of our Professors had very distinct Irish accents. But we had one lecturer at Trinity college (I believe he was from Dublin) who, too our untrained, unfamiliar American ears, sounded very English. Not just English, but quite posh English. We finally worked up the gumption to ask him about this & he laughed. He said he frequently heard this from American students, but that, when he went to English universities too present papers, he was teased about his "broad" Irish brogue.

In my opinion the hardest accent to do is a Glasgow accent, I think when English people or Americans do a scottish impression its always more Teuchter or Chookter sounding, with the singing tone associated with the Highlands, even people from Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth etc sound completely different from Glaswegian wich is a much flatter and direct tone and delivery. As a Glaswegian who involves all my Chookter friends in this kind of discussion I have NEVER even heard a non Glaswegian Scotsman who can do a real authentic Glasgow accent, they ussusly just go deeper and adopt a more agressive style without actually nailing the true essence of the accent.
