Qidi... it's actually pronounced 'see dee'. Also it's just the X-Max, not the X-Max 'Pro'. The X-Pro is a smaller, dual-extruder version. Between the two of those is the X-Plus. Also worth noting that you do NOT need the top cover on while printing PLA, or the front door closed. In fact, your print quality is likely to suffer because the ambient temperature will rise too much with the enclosure sealed. PLA benefits from efficient cooling, unlike ABS which requires a high ambient temperature.

Hi Benjamin, I have been in the 3D printing game for many years, originally built my own system and then latterly had a professional system that I refurbished (Stratasys Dimension SST). Nowadays I wanted a reliable system that 'just worked' and after researching found that the Qidi X-Maxwere the best fit for me. I would suggest that you research the Makerbot, Ultimaker, Dremel, Monoprice systems as well as the Qidi offerings and see if they satisfy your requirements. Things to consider would be: speed, precision, flexibility, software, what materials can it handle (ABS, PLA, nylon etc), size of model, your budget etc Hope this helps! Bob

Thanks Bob, I’ll start checking those manufactures out this weekend. To Nik’s point above, it would be nice to be able to get parts and updates periodically. I will be making brackets and parts that may be subject to some frequent load and vibrations, so any other specific printer model suggestions appreciated. Thanks again!

I just got my printer and unboxed it yesterday. I’ve got the X Max. Haven’t been able to use it at all yet. The only time the filament will pass through either extruder (standard or high temperature) is when I’m manually pushing it through. I’ve followed the instructions and the videos. I’ve emailed the company this morning but so far no reply.

Thanks for the unboxing and review, I’ve been considering this same printer for a while following some online research, will be my first 3D printer. It’s encouraging to hear that you chose to buy one when you have lots of 3D printer experience. I assume you’re UK based? I ask as the Amazon UK page states that it doesn’t ship with several items inc the top cover and the additional extruder, but yours appears to have come with them?

Hi Andy Thanks for the feedback. I use the X-Max everyday and really like it. Although I am originally from the UK I am based in Massachusetts and ordered it from Amazon US and it did include the top cover and extra extruder (which I haven't installed yet). Qidi customer service is very good and it maybe worthwhile contacting them to ask about the cover and extruder in the UK. Contact them at linda@qd3dprinter.com

Its been a few months now since you posted the video. How has the printer been going since? Have you printed ABS, PC or Nylon? Wondering how that goes... been looking to purchase one of these

Mr. Evans, thank you for sharing. I’m looking for my first 3D printer and I’m going to jump right in and go big. This is what you would recommend? Are there any others to consider?

I also wanted to build my own a few years but I had a lot of troubles finding the right parts from the part list. I found Sapphire S and some other printers, but all of them have a small print size (especially in X direction) Since I might need to print a case or a front plate wider than 20 cm, I really have a hard time finding a printer that also has decent quality. Then I saw the X-Max, but its price ist also something ... The video helped me a lot, I just hope it's easy to replace things when they break, I did not find any informations about nozzles, heating cartridge or extruder replacements or belts ... Also no firmware updates, the manufacturer website is mostly empty for me :o

Hi, I am still very happy with the Qidi, the most important thing to me is that "it just works", I can design something in F360, slice it, send it and print it :) It's a great machine and I'm sure you will be happy with it

Hi Hassen, they supply some binder clips that secure the drive in transit and I didn't remove them before starting up!

I thought you might have taken those out of the printer bc mine was making a similar noise yours made and you never showed where you removed them from. Shouldn't edit those out. I'm an example of someone who would've loved seeing where you pulled those out of

I think the closest english pronunciation of Qidi would be pronounced "Chi-di" but you should google pinyin to learn how to pronounce the q sound in Chinese. Q is like ch but with your tongue closer to your teeth and lips spread wider
