Perfect review! Very technical and in depth. and a direct compare to T962 . Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you the measurements and mentioning all the important points.

Hi Mark, Thanks for your reviews on both the T962 and Qs5100. Just wondering how you got on with these units? Did you finish up flashing the T962 to the updated firmware? How did you finish up with the QS5100? This unit appeared to be slightly better engineered going by your reviews, be interested in your feedback as I am currently looking at a basic reflow unit. Regards, Ian

My QS-5100 oven has arrived and I've been playing with it. So far so good! I adjusted the custom profile to work well with Chipquik SMD291SNL10 Pb-free solder paste and appear to be getting decent results with bright, well finished joints and properly bonded components. I have not tested it with multiple boards yet, so I cannot say anything about temperature uniformity. The largest board I have put in there so far is only about 3 x 2 in. I'm also interested to see what you find with your more rigorous thermocouple tests - temperature distribution and board / air temperature disparity (these would help guide towards a better estimate of how long to dwell in the preheat stage to ensure equilibrium has been attained).

Excellent review, thanks for this! I think this is the only useful video comparing the T-962 and QS-5100. Thanks to your video I have now made up my mind which one to get - the QS-5100.

Hi there! First of all, that's a really nice video review!!! Thank you very much! Now, I hope you don't mind answering a couple of questions. About this and the T-962 oven, which one would you recommend for small boards (2 in. x 2 in.), 4 at the same time? I'm worried about heat distribution, then I'll end up having to reflow one board at a time putting it on the center of the tray. Have you tried the custom firmware on the T-962? Best regards, Bruno

I have a QS-5100 but the menus are in Chinese language, you know how to change it to English?

Hi Mark. Great review thanks!! I was just wondering whether you find the 600W to be sufficient? I noticed most other small reflow ovens are 1600W or even 2400W?? Thanks!!

Please don't hate me, but I got distracted by a series of shiny objects and I haven't actually done anything useful with the oven!

@@Nf6xNet Hi Mark, thanks for the prompt response. Hate..? Never.. lol. Maybe just bit envious of the oven just sitting there and all the other shiny things you mentioned, haha. If you get to test it, please let me know. I normally do small board, around 100mm x 100mm but would be nice to be able to do two at a time. Worried about the 600W (compared to other models). Any tips on 3D printers?? Cheers!

Really good review! Do you think it would make the job with 0402 or BGA components?

To switch from Chinese to English: 1) Turn on the main power switch on the back. 2) Press an hold the RUN button while you turn on the machine with the ON/OFF button. This should bring up the language and graphics/text configuration screen. 3) Select ENGLISH and press the SET button. 4) Press RUN. The screen should turn off. 5) Turn it back on with the ON/OFF button. It should be in English now.

I write in detail about a Sn63/Pb37 reflow profile for this oven... I also plot the temperature data so you can see what the oven is doing... look at my blog iotexpert.com/2016/11/28/qinsi-qs5100-sn63pb37-solder-profile/

What the hell?! The oven displays 235°C when the thermocouple shows 286°C (at 9:53). No wonder I destroyed so many of my components with this s**t. I ran the same test and got the same results. My advise: keep away from it.

Clearly, these cheap Chinese models should not be viewed as finished products. Instead, they should be viewed as relatively cheap starting points where a DIYer can make some modifications to end up with something useful.

In other words, if you don't intend to make the improvements needed, then it's better to pass and get something more expensive that will work out of the box.
