I’ve got several knives from Amazon where the liner lock did not engage the tang of the folding blade, making the knife unsafe. I began thinking Amazon was buying factory seconds.

Yeah dude u just got a lemon 🍋. I have two Penguins & love them. I have the D2 with denim scales & the KnifeCenter exclusive S35vn. I don’t have a single complaint for either one of them. Just contact them, bring up the issue and ask them to inspect the next one before sending it to u. Easy peasy

@@peasantblades2227 as we’re on the subject of lemons & sending back knives. Stay away from the Knife Center exclusive Ria s35vn in denim. Worst thumb stud set up I’ve ever come across. It is painfully(literally) difficult to reply the blade. The height of the thumb stud is almost totally flush with handle, maybe 1mm above. The cut out to access the thumb stud is ridiculously small & shallow. To top things off the detent is super strong which sucks cuz u can hardly get any leverage on the thumb stud. I just got the knife a few hours ago & just trying to break in the action made my thumb sooooo sore. It feels like I have a nasty bruise right on the top of my thumb. After adjusting the position of my thumb on the stud I’ve finally found a way that’s a little easier to open it & doesn’t cause the same soreness. Even still it’s not easy to open. If u like to use your fingernail when flicking it open u can forget about it, you’ll just end up tearing your nail to shreds & still never get the blade to flip open. It’s too bad cuz I was really excited to get this knife. The knife is amazing otherwise, best action I’ve ever felt on a flipper & the knife looks great

@@peasantblades2227 I’ve been toying with it since yesterday & it’s improved considerably. I filed into the micarta to make the notch around the thumb stud larger & the stud more exposed. It’s still far from ideal but it’s manageable. There’s still absolutely no way u can flick it with your thumbnail & even using the pad of your thumb u need to wedge it in just the right spot to have it open even somewhat easily. If you’ve had the CRKT Inara its like that but a little worse. However for $20(reg price is like $60)the Inara is a great grab regardless. The Ria I got is still a dope knife, just pisses me off they screwed up like that on what’s supposed to be the premium model

@@peasantblades2227 when it does flip open it has such a satisfying flick to it. Once that blade gets moving it takes off like a rocket & makes such a good click noise when it locks into place. Same goes for closing it, super smooth action. I really feel like buying one of the base model Ria’s to see the difference. Before getting this knife I’d heard nothing but good things about the Ria(w the exception of the reviews for the denim model I unfortunately didn’t see)

They’re having serious QC issues with the Penguin. Mine was crap - stiff and shockingly dull. That crap liner lock on yours is really bad.

Annoying - yes, but from the perspective of someone just looking for a cheap knife I'd just take it apart, grind the lock a bit and move on with my life, or in your case adjust the pivot and sharpen the blade. i guess the actual point of concern would be how good is the heat treating.

Bend the tab out a little bit it will lock up better. Or you could also just keep opening and closing it as well. You may have sand a lil bit as well it takes about 5 min to fix as opposed to weeks.

The liner wasn't engaging all the way so seeing if it would actually lock it did not. Sent the video with pics to QSP they took care of me and did indeed confirm it was defective
