Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States was purposeful and had concrete outcomes, says former Deputy National Security Advisor Pankaj Saran.
Other than adding to the bilateral relationship, a key takeaway from the visit was the Quad leaders' summit and the many civilian areas of cooperation it put forth. The Quad cannot just rest on a narrow military objective as some looked at it earlier; it's good that you have a much broader canvas, said Ambassador Saran.
Speaking to StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale on 'The Gist' he said the small, vulnerable countries in the Indo-Pacific feel they have no option but to turn to China for developing their economy and infrastructure. "If the Quad can provide an alternative, that is the need of the hour."
