I specifically remember in 1997 wondering what computer games young people would play in 20 or 30 years time. I'm genuinely surprised every time I see someone young wanting to play a computer game that's significantly older than they are. I would never have thought it even possible to load up something so old. But it's enjoyable to see, it really is. Games like Quake 2 were the big FPS's back then, we used to multiplayer deathmatch a lot on Q2. Whenever I got the Quad Damage I'd quickly turn the hifi up so everyone else in the house could hear me demolishing my enemies with the double-barrelled shotgun. I had two 3DFX Voodoo 2 cards in SLI, they would push Q2 along at well over 100fps so it was silky smooth and very responsive. I do like these new render engines that are available now, they do polish up the old visuals to make use of the astronomical advances in GPU power that's happened since then.

Back in 1998-99 it was all about online multiplayer. Gamespy, IRC channels, duels, clan battles, CTF, Lithium, Rocket Arena, Action Q2. The scene was incredible as every gamer on the planet was playing it for those 2 years. The single player was always kind of meh...

The machine games campaign is so well designed and intuitive that I didn't really need the compass at any point to progress without breaking the pacing, despite some fairly complex puzzle box levels.

of course it deserved the hype, this game is a masterpiece, and the fact that weapons have muzzle flashes now, it's so nice, the new added episode is awesome, but these levels have barely any music except in the trials. I love quake 2

I thought the people who grew up with doom and quake were gen x and millennials?

@@dont_think2x I was born in 96. My generation (at least where I live) didnt have easy access to computers till we were a bit older, and internet was a luxury, so I wasn't even allowed to surf and download stuff till I was 6 years old. That's when I discovered Doom, Half Life, etc.... So quake 2 was 5 years old at that point. So no, boomers were the ones that had access to all this goodness.
@dont_think2x

@@elchonkoai appreciate the story dude, I had a similar one with access to Internet or computers, but boomers refers to baby boom after WWII, 1940's, boomers should be around 70 yrs old now, I don't count them out as gamers, (I know of 1 who actually played the recent Doom 2016 and even Prodeus), In general they where nearing middle age status or already there and probably complaining about "kids and their damn video games these days", I know it's a meme now, and boomer now refers to anyone over 12 yrs old but whatever

@@dont_think2x "boomer now refers to anyone over 12 yrs" yeah you get the spirit lmao. Again, might be in my circle, but we call boomers people who are between 30-45. Anyone older than that it's just "old person" or "old fart" depending on how much respect we have heh. I call myself a boomer sometimes in the context of videogame taste. Like, who the fuck is playing Blood nowdays?

Honestly not the biggest fan of the berserkers leap attack Kinda feels cheap at times and especially in N64 with the smaller more confined maps They really do just leap across entire rooms at times and the area of effect kinda is bigger than the animation makes it out to be But to be frank this being my only true issue goes to show how good of a remaster this is I’m gonna get to completing it fully at time point and yeah they be releasing the OST on vinyl which I’ve pre-ordered so I’m looking forward to that Anyhoo apologies for the rambling and nice video

Cool video. But one thing is a bit misleading. You are showing some footage of Doom as you say , Nightdive did many remasters for old id software games. But Nightdive never remastered Doom. The new versions of Doom were developed by Nerve Software.

Awesome but one very important point got by you: RTX only! You mentioned all the names they were using for this release EXCEPT for that one, QUAKE II RTX, which is crucial as game won't even launch w/ GTX cards unless you put "+set vid_rtx 0" in the Launch Options but you're not getting the new deal, merely the old game dressed up, which still looks great. You want that raytracing cream tho.
