I couldn't wait to get back to my home country of Australia after living for a few years in Germany... We have the annual vacation time, free healthcare and government subsidised education and safe streets and zero gun crime etc etc etc that Germany does, except unlike Germany, our salaries are so high after taxes that we aren't taking what Germans begrudgingly call 'Urlaub in Balkonien' - Germany sucks compared to Australia, but the USA sucks WAAAAAYYYY worse...

Darling @usa.mom.in.germany, whether the US vs Germany is better depends entirely on what you look like and what ethnicity you are. For sure, the US is far from perfect, but at least there are black and Latino success stories that are unheard of in Europe. I'm a highly educated Latino man with 11 year of university training, still I was unemployed in Sweden. After just 2 weeks in Australia I already had 3 jobs. Europe is rasist and being successful there only requires you to be one thing - a white fellow; not hard work, talent, work ethic or merits. You'll probably not reply to this because you know I'm right and realised that in the US I'd be your boss - that's why you fled to a country like Germany where being whitetrash pays your bills. Another problem is, that those of us who do realize it's better in other countries like Denmark, Sweden, Germany, etc, can't do anything about it. I looked up what is needed to qualify for citizenship (unless you can receive the same benefits sans citizenship) and basically you need to be in a position that you don't need the benefits of living in a social democratic state in order to be approved. So, for families like mine (I'm disabled and my son is barely 20 and put off college because my MS progressed faster than expected) we don't qualify to move there. Meanwhile living here in the US just means an earlier grave for me, and no college for him. I'm from Spain. studied and worked in the US for 3 years and I originally was planning to stay there and get a PhD, but I didn't work out. In hindsight I'm glad it didn't because I'd be very stressed about work, permanently scared of a riot or a shooting or having any interaction with the police, worried about money, insurance, credit score and everything. In Europe I may pay a bill more in taxes but the benefits I get are very much worth it and I have more money in the bank at the end of every month than I would in the US. I can go for a walk at night and feel safe, I can rely on public transportation that's often subsidized so it's cheaper and I don't spend that much in gas, I have several supermarkets near my house so I can walk there to buy groceries every day rather than going to freaking Walmart by car to buy a lot of stuff. Here we have low cost airlines so we can travel anywhere in the continent for little money. We have paid sick days, we're paid every month including the summer and in December and June we get paid double. I don't have to worry about healthcare because everything is covered and I can still get private insurance if I want to save time or get certain procedures done and bcause public healthcare is that good, private insurance isn't too expensive either because it's not mandatory, it's not necessary and almost nothing they do can't be done within the public system. Public schools are usually better than private, basic education is free in Spain in both private and public schools. In some European countries even university is completely tuition free and in those that it isn't it's still WAY cheaper than in the US because it's funded by the government. I'll go back to the US to visit friends and see the places I could not see before, but I'm never going back to live there.

The perfect socialist utopia as every European country I pretending to be. I have a feeling that you are in for a ride awaking with the Great Reset by the WEF and the excess of migrants! I am a Canadian and my Father came here in 1929 believe it or not. When people came to the US and Canada in those years they weren’t looking for health insurance or how many paid holidays they were going to get!! These concepts were not even there yet! They came to work for a better future for adventure and to be a pioneer. I don’t think people these days have any concept of what the pioneer spirit was and that is one major reason why they don’t understand North Americans. Now people are shopping for countries with the most freebies but of course nothing is free.
@anxofernandez3344

@@marymolloy562 I don't think any European country is really a socialist utopia. Maybe if you pick and choose some of the different policies and some of the actual customs and traditions from each country, state, province or autonomous region you could get something kinda close to a perfect social democracy, but it's definitely bits and pieces of many different territories. Bavaria is nothing like Sicily, which isn't like Alsace-Lorraine, very different from Catalonia, nothing to do with Flanders, which is completely different from Scotland, looks nothing like Bohemia... its just like in the States, California is very different from Texas, which has little to do with the New England states, which are not like Utah or Idaho and those aren't like Iowa and Nebraska...and so on and so forth. The pioneer lifestyle isn't really possible these days in North America or Europe because they're too developed for that. I think east Africa and southeast Asia are probably the places to experience that at the moment, but the culture shock might be too big for us westerns.

As a 35-year-old college educated American, who has lived abroad in the UK and in Germany (during college), my perspective is different. It would be amazing if the United States could pull itself together enough to successfully implement universal, healthcare and free college tuition. However, our government is an absolute shit show, and as it stands, I do not want them in charge of my healthcare, or any other element of my life. Our politicians sit around bickering with each other over Twitter, while earning three or four times, the average national salary, and they accomplish nothing because they spend all their time at war with one another. Although we have several political parties, only two are given any attention by the media, so misinformed and ignorant voters, just do whatever social media tells them to do. And Democrats just can’t stand it when Republicans have a victory, and Republicans can’t stand it when Democrats have a victory. And they get so caught up in battling each other that they completely failed the American people. It would take fundamental changes to our entire democracy for any of the social policies to work effectively. 🤷🏻♀️

If you are a student find out about exchange scholarships for US students in Europe. There are many cases of such students coming to Europe and never leaving. If you have at least one grandparent from a European country you may be able to move there automatically and claim one of their passports. For a more adventurous example, check out the video by Luke Bland, "How I found the American dream in Finland" (in 3 parts)

Research some countries online, most have gov't websites that give you an outline of what requirements they want and how to apply. If non-English speaking you will need to have at least some understanding of their language.

@@shaunp9592 Actually, in the Nordic countries there are a number of workplaces, usually high-tech, where the working language is English. But once here, the companies encourage the employee to start learning the language.

We're not perfect. I live in Edmonton, Alberta and we rival Dallas / Fort Worth in urban sprawl. Most North American cities grew up around the car. Our cities are not pedestrian friendly and public transit is a joke. Here in Edmonton LRT planning ( Light rail transit ) is an after thought. It's almost impossible to get around Edmonton with out a vehicle.

@@robsavage3296 no mate your not perfect you do have, universal health care and gun control though which puts you miles ahead of the U.S. As for the urban planning we have the exact opposite problem. Medieval streets and modern cars are not friends. You really haven't lived untill you've been on a small intalian side street whilst two cars negotiate passage. No country is perfect brother, even Germany has its own share of problems and divisive issues.

i am tired of Americans telling us Aussies that we have no freedom because we do not worship guns. well, we dont want to kill each other and we look after each other and if they think that is a bad thing, then maybe they deserve to live in the hell they insist on creating. i just wish they would grow up and value their own people and land, etc.

Well: GDP is a lot higher in the USA, even GDP per capita. And everything is bigger: cars, houses etc. - but in Germany you don’t feel bad for not having it, because nobody has it. And the segregation between middle class and poor people is not as crass in Germany: they can still mingle. (Edit: and the poor are better cared for; large part of the poor and the middle class both consider themselves “working class”, and social status is more linked to work than to actual income, which limits the hate and disgust and fear between the social strata.)

I have spent a lot of time in England and in Germany. I sum it up like this: if you want big cars, big houses (way bigger than you need), wide roads, enormous grocery stores, and fast food places on literally every corner, the U.S. wins, hands down. On everything else, European countries win- accessible healthcare, time off work, locally owned stores and restaurants. generally cheaper housing though it might be smaller, and this point probably less in the way of regulations and police harassment.

If you like big cities and hubs with shorter distances and love people sure go to Germany or any European hub but if you like comfortable living in big homes with swimming pools driving trucks with no worry about gas prices or retarded inspection laws and don't have to worry about old people checking your trash or yelling at you for making noise after 11 lmao live in America or Canada . She fails to state that most people in germany will never own a their own house or property hell most don't even own their own car and germans loveeee control and being by the book even when it's agiants any sense or logic but to each their own we are humans and the beauty of this planet is you can live anywhere you'd like if you really want.

People in the US have absolutely no idea how much better the quality of life is in western Europe. They simply can't conceive of it. For example: Excellent public transportation. Great schools, including awesome vocational education. Four to five weeks vacation every year. Healthcare for everyone that is not dependent on your employment. Better tasting food. We could be so much better than we are.😢

One of my dearest friends married an US citizen, she herself is Chinese made her PhD in Physics (for free) at the University of Tübingen/ Germany. Anyway after working in Germany they moved to Sweden. And than the Company of her husband called him back to the US. They do have a baby (born in Sweden) and they bot expirienced all the benefits from Germany/ Sweden. She was one of the most happy people I know always optimistic... And now, America broke her a bit. I feel sad while seeing and talking to her. I sincerely hope, they'd come back soon. For her, for her sons and husbands well being.
