Alright people arent catching his mistake here. At 13:50, 10 is not the 4.25th postion since the 4.50th position is 10. For example, 3.76th, 7.23th, 4.97th, you cant just go and add up the 2 numbers and divide by 2 to get your answer. The only time where you can do that is when the position ends in a 50th so like, 3.50th, 4.50th, etc etc. The guy in the video is missing a step called interpolating which requires creating the fractional equation of the differences.

Professor Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for an incredible introduction to Quartiles, Deciles and Percentiles using a Cumulative Relative Frequency Table. Although I have seen this material before, this is the first time that I have some understanding of how to calculate the deciles and percentiles using a cumulative relative frequency table. A basic course in Statistics would improve by overall understanding of this topic.

Thx for sharing. Bt wrong answer for q1 and q2. the answer for Q1 and Q3 is not just simply find the median of minimum (or maximum) value and Q2. In you calculation, location of q1 4.25 and q3 12.75 are right, but (9+11)/2=10 is not the right q1. Correct answer should be Q1=4th+(5th-4th)*0.25=9+(11-9)*0.25=9.5. Q3=12th+(13th-12th)*0.75=19+(20-19)*0.75=19.75.

On the quartiles, percentiles and deciles ,when a decimal point occurs, we incorporate linear interpolation Eg in example (16:00) 60th percentile = 60/100 (16+1)th value= 10.2th value= 10th value +0.2(11th value - 10th value) = 10 + 0.2(17 - 16) =10+ 0.2(1) = 10+0.2 =10.2 . This also applies to the rest of the examples with decimal points. We deduct the next number (11th value) to the found value (10th value) and multiply by the decimal point (0.2). 0.2(17-16)

I think the answer in 13:33 should be 9.5 since the location is 4.25, meaning P_25 will be located 25% starting from the 4th term (which is 9) to the 5th term (which is 11). I think getting the average of those two terms will only be applicable if all of the given terms do have common difference.

Hello, thank you for this video. It is really supportive since it helped us to remember the formula of how to calculate quartiles, deciles, and percentiles. However, I would like to know the value of decimals when you are saying that whole number with some decimal numbers must be calculated using the midpoint between the location of the whole number and the next number to that position. I would like to know the reason why you don't care about the decimals that you got when calculating. for example, when you get 10.3th you could have used 10th + 0.3(11th-10th). I will be happy getting the feedback from you soon.
on your example which is 10.3th place. get the two whole numbers in terms of place involve (10th and 11th place). use the Higher value (the value of 11th place) subtracted by the Lower Value (the value of the10th place) then multiply the result by the decimal (0.3) then add the lower Value (the value of the 10th place) then you got the 10.3th place.

I did a trial of finding the midpoint of the 50th and 62.5th percentile (23:13), and the result is the same, it's 56.25. So we can really estimate that 16 (the first 16) is the midpoint of the 50th and 62.5th, which is 56.25 (approximately 56). But yeah it's just an estimation.

i have a doubt with the example with 16 data points taken. When we calculated the 25th percentile we got 4.25 as its location, and we took the average of the two vales in 4th and 5th position. Suppose we now calculate the 26th percentile and for that location value we will get as 4.42 , so if now we want the 26th percentile value then will it again be the average of the 4th and 5th position ?
