I love quartz. Near where I lived in southern Arizona there was a mountain that top of is a big deposit of quartz. During monsoon season the top got rained clean and could look almost like a snow cap laying there in the triple digit heat.

Quartz is also used to make the elements inside an Ultrasound Transducer. Quartz has the ability to transform electric energy into sound energy by way of something called the Piezoelectric effect. The electric energy from the power cord going to the transducer of the ultrasound machine, you know that little wand the technician holds in their hand, anyways the electric energy changes into sound energy and the sound waves are emitted from the tip of the transducer through the gel they put on the skin and into the body. Those sound waved bounce off structured in the body and bounce echos back to the transducer, when the energy passes back through the crystal element it changes back over from sound energy into electric energy (once again the Piezoelectric effect) and the electric energy is interpreted. Or something like that from what I understand. Of course, they don't use crystals pulled right out of the ground, they develop the precise crystal elements in a lab but they are crystals none the less.

We just moved onto our new property and I am stunned there is quartz lying literally on every square ft of our 38ac(some I've picked up are 10lbs and up). There is mica everywhere as well (accd to a rock iD app). Granite rocks also but mainly quartz, what does this mean? Why would it be scattered on top of the ground (buried like lil icebergs also). There is a meteor impact site near here from thousands of years ago but not sure if that has something to do with it. I've found a few broken arrowheads made from the quartz. We have a small stream I cannot wait to explore. I am def subbing because I've always had a passion for rocks...I just want to actually learn as much as possible about every mineral, crystal, etc. Thanks for the video.😊

quartz have a trigonal crystal system? I thought quartz was notorious for it's hexagonal structure nvm after 5.7 seconds of research I see the trigonal crystal system encompasses the hexagonal lattice system which a quartz is an example of. so trigonal crystal system hexagonal lattice system, dont know the diff between crystal and lattice but i've got nothing to do today either

Different acids will react differently. Even HCL may NOT show a reaction, while citric acid will show more of a reaction and haze/cloudy the stone surface. Dolomite has magnesium oxide, so it has a different bond, and is stronger than marble, limestone. Quartzite can chip easier than dolomite.

it's because, as a mineral, it is an ingredient in rock. It's more rare to find any mineral purely on its own. For example Granite, by definition, is between 20% and 60% quartz.

Is quartz expensive or just something you value for beauty? I’m just getting into rock and fossil hunting. I have a fossil we believe is very very old... let’s say from Jurassic era. Is this something you know anything about? If so, can I send you a picture of it? We were told it was a family of ammonites. We looked up ammonite and those died off when dinosaurs did. I’m looking at several hundred rocks I have collected on the mountains of Colorado and a few here in Texas as well as fossils. I stare at them all the time trying to figure out what the heck they all are? Lol
