I can see that it would be tricky for the very busy lads to arrange, film and edit it. Best would be another channel following it up. Worked on many 70,s and 80,s Rolls Royce and Bentley's and every place the factory used lead they rusted and rotted .I was told it was the tinning flux to get the lead to stick that caused the rot .Do you use acid free tinning ? Isn't epoxy filler substitute for the lead stronger ,lighter and inert ( not attack the steel ) ?

Re, lead filling, what makes it bond to the steel panel? Especially when applying a relatively thin layer of lead to ensure panels are flush to each other? What surface prep is required to the sheet steel panels to ensure the lead stays stuck/attached/bonded? I’m in awe with how you form, shape and manipulate steel, I do wooden boats, lots of angles, bevels and curves as they progress through the lines, achieving this with wood seems to me to be a lot easier than with the resistance of metal! Loving your work, your attention to details and vision!

My Tech College teacher for hand skills/ forming metal panels always told us to treat the English Wheel with the same gentleness as you do your "lady's private parts", therefore I was a little concerned to see Tom, (I think it is), using the wheel to "press form" that floor section. Couldn't he have just done that job between two plates in the fly press or a hydraulic press. Those wheels can mark easily and then just transfer that onto everything you put through it in the future.

The only issue with the hydrablasting is its designed for steel ships with thick plate steel that is half an inch thick. Not cars, you will deform or cut the Audi and lift the spot welds with water, rusting it later. As others mentioned dry ice is used because it makes rubber hard/brittle so it can be scrapped off. The C02 won't seep into the seams
@totalutternutter

i imagined hydroblasting would be good for removing the car from the sealer without damaging the sealer.
@fraserwright9482
7 ай бұрын
Yes it's 400-1400bar, so the normal demo they give is jet washing wood, cement, stone and aluminium clean with a Karcher. The hydra blaster wand is sometimes a two man job like a fire man, it then cuts the wood/cement/alloy like a waterjet would. As I said it's a shipyard tool where you have an inch of multiple layers of paint and plate steel 10-50mm thick not 0.75-2mm Audi.

@@matts7377 Yes "removing paint from Tanks" is the caveat to that. I would still use dry ice for soft material. We use a vacuum sandblasting kit, it's a sealed system, so it vacs around a bristlehead into a cyclone separator to then re use the media over and over again so you only need to wear a mask. Nat has a very 70's era system of a bloke in a pressure suit with media and waste going everywhere. Even hydrablasting is old school as the waste goes everywhere the vapor does.

Superb stuff as usual! I have a question, regarding the scissor lift. As a hobby level car nut at home, my place isn't high enough for a normal lift - the scissor lift is looking like the next best thing. I currently have a system of "Russian Boxes" - like the dolls, but heavy duty car supporting boxes instead (capable of supporting a P38) - they fit inside themselves for storage and sit on each other when being used to support the cars. I can also configure them, so they act as a ramp, that gives me about a foot under the cars for simple things like oil changes etc (they line up and are long enough for all our cars - simply lay them on the ground and drive up and along them). I can get 2 1/2 feet high when used as stands, stacked under the wheels which is kinda the limit for my Volvo 850 estate due to the roof joists. The Mini's I can get upto 4 feet, as their roofs fit between the roof joists (they are 6 feet apart and there is 2-3 feet extra in the centre peaked roof line). So, the typical 'home gamer' trials and tribulations in terms of space constraints. My questions are, where/how/who did you get it from, what are the height options (can it be used at 1 foot, 2 foot, 3 foot etc or is it all the way down or all the way up only) and is it single phase friendly? It isn't the sort of thing I would trust getting blindly from Amazon for example, you guys know what you are doing and would say what is wrong or right with something like a ramp/lift/tool for your uses - so I would appreciate your advice. I do not know of anyone who has one to have a good gander at it. If I have missed an episode where further details of it are shown, please let me know. I understand that your advice would be your opinions only and not an endorsement, my mileage will vary, contents may settle in transit, colour is for illustration purposes only and I have plenty of salt here to pinch etc. Many thanks in advance, should you provide any details. Cheers.

The easiest way to remove sound deadening in a clean evident way is to use dry ice, it makes the insulation rock hard and only needs a few bangs to dislodge, you can also scrape the underseal off at the same time, a cautionary note, 14500 psi water is enough to distort metal, so why not grab a shell out of a scrap yard and practice on that for a start, if it works out fine carry on with the proper shell, if it all turns to shit on the practice shell, DONT CARRY ON 😂😂😂😂

Are the Escort lights programmable to kill the headlight when the indicator is on? One of my pet peeves in recent years has been vehicle design teams creating fancy lighting systems, especially in respect of indicator positioning, which may look smart but make it impossible to see indicators clearly and effectively if the headlights are on. Day or night in some cases. The Escort lights, as seen late in the video, suggest that they might be suspect in that regard. Fine for something only used now and again and probably not in seriously inclement weather, but very annoying in everyday situations.

Carbon fibre panels mixed with dynamat on every square inch of the interior is the dumbest combination I have ever seen.
@retropowercars

How so? Carbon is generally being utilised when we are redesigning the shape of a panel, or in instances (eg door skins) where we want to open up the seams to make sure no corrosion is lurking, but replacement panels are not available or uneconomical to make in steel. Its also stiffer and lighter, so while we may be adding weight to gain refinement, the overall weight will still be less than steel panels with sound deadening applied.
