Quebec French Be Like...
Have you ever noticed that Quebecers tend to pronounce "vaerre" instead of "verre"? This linguistic phenomenon is known as a diphthong.
The word "diphthong" comes from Greek and means "two sounds". It describes a vowel that "slides" from one pronunciation to the other while it is being said. Some languages, link English and older French, use diphthongs, but the phenomenon has practically disapeared in modern Metropolitain French.
Here in Québec, we still have some diphthongs, mostly in the colloquial French register. The "ère" sound is one of the most remarkables.
