With over 2000 half-timbered houses, the town of Quedlinburg in the Harz Mountains is one of the largest area monuments in Germany. The most beautiful half-timbered town is a World Heritage Site. In the historic old town, the historic Renaissance town hall stands amidst the cobblestone streets, winding alleys and small squares. Here visitors discover half-timbered houses from eight centuries. At the edge of the old town rises the Schlossberg with the Romanesque collegiate church. From the 10th century the Ottonian rulers, Otto I and Otto II, celebrated Easter in the castle. King Henry I previously lived in the castle and was also buried here.
